I've been fooling around with RPGMaker XP, and I've got a demo ready to play.
The main site for the game is here (http://www.freewebs.com/red_valor/rolandstale.htm).
You guys can leave any feedback/praise/problems/bugs found/etc. here!
I am trying it out! So excited!
I am getting the following error message upon attempting to launch the program: RGSS102E.dll could not be found.
Apparently I am very bad at this game. :(
RPGMaker tends to have logs of bugs. Especially if you don't have the entire program installed on your computer. At least, all the versions I've ever used (which was many, multiple versions) were like that. Anyhoo, I got a similar message too.
Okay, are you guys using either RPGMakerXP or the RGSS RTP program at the bottom?
Ooh, I got expelled for questioning my instructors. Precocious child! And my, what a strict academy!
My childhood buddy Dean has joined the party, and we're going Goblin-hunting! Sword in hand, we strike off, and... damn, I'm a handsome devil.
First goblin encounter and the score is as follows:
Roland: 1, goblins: NOTHING! This is easy when you're a brash young overconfident protagonist full of hubris, like I am!
Oh no, spooky mood music.. something is about to happen! It's COMBAT!
...and Dean fights like a freakin' ninja or something. No wonder we hung out all the time as kids; the guy's got style.
For a mage, Dean hits pretty hard with a thwackin' stick. And has a sissy attitude about being outnumbered. Oh well.
Wait, here's a damsel in distr-- oh. Yeah, something tells me Abella's going to be trouble on wheels.
I like that the goblins are so talkative and well-spoken, even poetic.
This prisoner is oddly imprisoned without bars. Perhaps foul sorcery holds him immobile in his cell, mocking him with the appearance of freedom, while torturing him with inability to claim it! This goblin king is cruel indeed!
He's also philosophical, it seems. Now I seem to be getting into some moral shaky ground, and some of the meat of Red Valor. Damn you, goblin king!
That was a fight that had me panicking.
Poison Edge is very lethal.
So, Wyrmskulls. This is interesting. And about that man in the green cape... I don't think I saw him on the way in at all.
Back in town, I see our reputation preceeds us. It's good to be the hero already; hail to the king, baby!
So, I go to the end of the demo. I'm interpreting that to mean I won the game. Go me!

Congratulations! If everything goes well, I hope you can say the same about the full version!
QuotePerhaps he's also alone in a compound full of armed goblins, without any weapons or armor.
True, but we were tearing up goblins left and right. He could have followed us right out with nary a scratch on him. :)
1) how do I acess the menu screen?
2) DAMN YOU ELDO! For the addictive nature of the game. *shakes fist*
Escape calls up the menu.
Ah, yes... Escape is the menu, whereas enter/spacebar is the action button. You can save and equip from the main menu.
Something I've always thought would greatly benefit RPG Maker is if you could use your gamepad to play the game, instead of having to use the Esc and Space/Enter combo with arros pads
