That's right, a Video game based on our very community!
I've been toying with the idea of creating a visual novel (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Visual_novel), but have been running into a wall as to what it should be about. Then I had the brilliant idea of having it an outlandish comedic portrayal of the CBG. I figured, if that's what I'm going to do, then why not invite the community in on the creative process?
I've already talked to HORSE, and he's offered to do some character designs, already coming up with ideas for himself and for Vreeg. If you'd like to explicitly opt in (or out) of being a character, feel free! Unfortunately, there's a possibility that not all that opt in will be allowed as characters, but those who contribute are automatically granted a character.
The engine we'd be using is RenPy (http://www.renpy.org/wiki/renpy/Home_Page), even if only because it's so damned easy to work with. If you feel like volunteering anything-- character ideas, storyline, artwork, anything-- please speak up. I'd like to see what can be done with this!

His face was pale like clay and save for his eyes, mask-like. These eyes were set very close together, and were small, dark red, and of startling concentration..."
I am almost afraid to say this considering Horse's train of thought there but sure you can use me if you want.
Sure thing, for both of you!
SP, I'm thinking the latter might be a fun option to toy around with.
Another thing: character can have their names displayed in color with RGB hex values, which I think we should take advantage of. Each character should get their own color.

Well, if you wanna help...
Do you have any idea of how the story/setting will be set up? Will we be in a guild of cosmic worldsmiths? Will settings be featured?
You should totally make us major NPCs in a setting with the heroes trying to save the day. They could be led on a holy mission by the great turtle to cleanse the world of the evil spambot menace.

Ok so they have to collect the nine holy cabbages to unlock a power great enough to stop the spambots forever. The ninth cabbage though requires them to fight the great fiend of the ninth cabbage who seeks to spread the spam.
Each level could be a setting :P
Also, turtles.
And you can use my character. I would quite obviously be a crow of some sort. Perhaps shrouded in mystery!
The setting would have to be something that has computers, as Brainface is a brain in a jar hooked up directly to a huge network of computers.

Maybe the PC could be a new recruit to the Guild?
I've added a status for each character; if you're on the list, your character is either requested (by you), suggested (by someone else), or confirmed (to be in the game, as of the current development stage).
I've already started working on scripting the game, declaring the characters, and providing some sample dialogue for most of them. Fortunately, this can be done independently of actual artwork. Once we can think of some actual in-story lines for each character, I'll remove their lines in the sample dialogue.
If you need some sort of guy who is part of a government conspiracy, feel free to use me (the character Stone). A good description would be a average looking man in a black suit and mirrorshades. Take off the shades though... and you deal with some psychic weirdness.
Agent Stone, it is. What do you think of being a double agent, seemingly working with the protagonists, but secretly helping out The Fiend?
When I read the title of this thread I thought it'd be a computer adaptation of people's settings.
I'd be interested in that (I've done a game of this type here (http://www.ageoffable.net)) - so if anyone came here with the same misconception as me, maybe they can PM me or reply.
Actually, I had thought once of making a DooM II mod based on a setting, but that kind of fell through. If someone wanted to write a storyline for a text adventure (similar to yours) for their setting, I'd be able to see if I could write up the code for that, too.
Quote from: Rorschach FritosAgent Stone, it is. What do you think of being a double agent, seemingly working with the protagonists, but secretly helping out The Fiend?
depends on the nature of the fiend... If it is blatantly supernatural, not likely work for the fiend. If the fiend is more human, especially something in high levels of his organization/government, he'd likely obey, but not follow blindly. I could also be helping and not know it either... basically played as the mook.
If you wanted to incorporate me I could be a villain with a fondness for overly purple prose. The character Steerpike in Goremenghast was burnt badly at one point so that could also be a trait; he also carries (and is skilled with) a swordcane, and is a skilled poison-maker and schemer. Maybe a lietuenant of the Fiend working secretly to undermine him and seize power for himself??? Just random thoughts.
This is a pretty awesome idea. Good luck with it :)

This isn't really what I was thinking with this game, unfortunately. I'm not against text adventures, and I'm willing to help people if they want to create their own, but that isn't what this project is.

Sorry about that.
Visual Novels, as the name suggests, tend to be very story-oriented, so they don't really have levels, per se, so much as they have scenes. While it might be cool to have it in a different project, I'm not entirely sure how much we can jump around from setting to setting. That said, if someone has an idea on how we might be able to do that, please feel free to let me know.
Also, I'll add you to the list of characters. Turtles, of course, are a must.
QuoteI'm not entirely sure how much we can jump around from setting to setting... Turtles, of course, are a must.
Obviously, they are interdimensional warp turtles. Hop on one's back and it will take you across space and time faster than... well, faster than you'd expect from a turtle, that's for sure.

Due to recent news, Ishmayl will be in this game. At this point, I can't say whether he'll be a cameo or a full-fledged protagonist, but I'm not going to leave him out of the game.
Edit-- Also, I got my black Copic marker refilled today, and I picked up two new ones. Hopefully I can get some of the artwork started.

I've started the artwork for Brainface, but unfortunately, I don't have a scanner. I'll try to see what I can do about remedying that, though.
Okay, it's been awhile, huh? Well, I do finally have a scanner (as members of SIG already know), but I lost the work I was doing for Brainface. I think I'd prefer to start with a character that's already confirmed, though.
Anyway, I posted a simple plot summary, based on the discussions in this thread. I'd love to hear if anyone has any new suggestions!
I'm thinking of easing the workload a bit by removing the characters that have only been suggested. These would be ElDo, Isomage, and Fudgebob.

Interesting, what's the status on this?
HOw may I help?
If you want, you can create some backgrounds, or character art. You've seen a the descriptions of a few characters in the thread already, so that should give you something to go on if that's what you decide to do.
Also, you can work out a more detailed storyline, possibly even with some dialogue. That's another thing that definitely needs work.
I suppose I could update the first post with status info...

HQ was originally intended to be Vreeg's wine cellar, but then Vreeg had to go mention "an orbital satalite club house that we could all meet up in" in another thread. That sounded like a much better HQ idea than a cellar. Then I thought, well, this is already supposed to be over the top, right? We could just make the satellite be the cellar. Tada! Now we have the HQ.
In this Satellite Cellar HQ, of course, we now have a magic vending machine. I think it would be cool if that got worked into the game somehow.
