Okay so i want to put an arena in my campaign. It's more of a chance for competitive entertainment like football or something, not really for watching halfings get slaughtered by giants.

The setting is classic DnD with medium magic usage (not high but not low) kind of 5th century feel (about the same time the romans were around).

If anyone has done this before in a campaign and can offer points or even where i can find info about arenas that would be great.

I'm looking mostly for info on basic layout of the arena and services that would be needed (hospital maybe) and also any fighting rules. One rule i came up with is that competitors can't use dismiss spells against summoned creatures they are fighting, if they do they forfeight the battle.

thanks all..

the forums at cgsociety
have some good tutorials as far as anatomy sketches. I've learned a thing or two there.

I was actually thinking of getting a photodump account and scanning on stuff from my own setting , so i guess whenever i get around to doing that i'll put it on my profile, or in my sig.

Intro:
Grendor Hagortough is the name of a dwarven paladin I made, which I haven't played all that often (I usually play as the magic user when in a group). I'm in college now as a double major (Pre-Med and Art), I'm also an EMT and a born-again chrisitian and also enjoy playing video games, writing stories, and spending summers with friends.

-Gaming systems you use
I've only played DnD v3.5 so far, I've never played a scripted, published setting; they've all been homebrew so far. I do want to try and play a d20 modern campaign heavily influenced by Cowboy Bebop.

-General gaming history
I've been playing for 4.5 years now (since 2003 back in high school).

-Personal likes and dislikes
I like: Fantasy novels, drawing, rolling natural 20's, riding on an ambulance, shooting the breeze with friends.

I dislike: bad DMing, meta-gamers, people who pretend to know what they're talking about, Myspace.

-Strengths and weaknesses in game design
When it comes to creating games and adventures for people to play, they usually go unfinished (maybe they're to long or something?), I feel that i'm good with creating imagery and texture but lack in game pacing.

-What published settings have you used/do you like?
Never used one

-Major influences on your world-building
can't say that i have any, but i do get a little of something from here and there, such as Dragonlance, Zelda (as far as costumes go), everything else i try to be as original as possible in.
