Yeah, been a while since I cleaned up the desktop. Made the background myself.

I haven't touched my stuff in a while, and don't plan to for however it long it takes out to sort some things in real life.

Abandonment/Forsaken: Plan for that is just to get all of what I have into my head onto the wiki before I forget most of it. Once that is done I want to rethink what I want to do with the setting. It was originally meant to be a rather generic setting for use with D&D, meaning no big crunch changes or anything, but I'm thinking of ditching that goal and just doing what I want with it.

Semi-long term, I want to flesh out the existing continent a bit more and finalize a history for every major country so that I can actually run a game in this setting.

Periri: I lost a ton of links to random generators I was planning on using for this when I formatted (forgot to back up my bookmarks), and haven't put in the effort to finding them again. Aside from that I also need to clean up the borders on the map, which I'm not too sure how to do, actually. Aside from those two, I just need to sit down and generate a country.

This picture is totally unrealistic.

Sisters of battle don't get dreadnoughts.

I don't' think the rotation of the earth is quite that fast, but I could be wrong.

Edit: what's that comic from?

Nah it's not dead, it's just basically the third project I have going and I've been putting all my effort into redoing my old Abandonment setting.

I'll get back to this soon I hope.

Depends on the setting. Certainly a world where it's common to have powerful characters an adventurer might be the source of some awe but not otherwise out of the ordinary. I can see Forgotten Realms being this way, but I don't think the standard medieval fantasy world archetype supports that too well.

But yeah there is no should, that's a good point.

This seems like the most appropriate spot for this. I've changed my display name to Sarandosil. I'm not really sure why I signed up using my real name ages ago, but I've been using the name Sarandosil for all my online gaming stuff so this way it's consistent with the rest of my online activity.

Quote from: KindlingI've always had a problem with idea of "adventuring" being a career path. To me, this removes all the adventure from it! The PCs should be heroes, remarkable individuals because they do what no one else does.

Heh I quite agree. A lot of games I've played in seem to treat adventuring as just another career which has always been a little strange to me. Even if there was such a concept as an adventurer that's widely known, it should be regarded as the domain of the insane if done for personal wealth or fun (you'd have to be the most extreme kind of adrenaline junkie to fight a dragon for enjoyment), and adventurers should be godly heroes if they're the types who go out and do something like clear a dungeon for the safety of the people living in the area.

I have to admit a softspot for the paper looking maps. Looking good.

I feel like I'm spamming this thread, but here's the latest map for my Forsaken (formerly abandonment) setting. It's kind of funny how inconsistent the scale is, like the Oasis actually being visible.

Now that I look at the giant map I've made, I'm struck with the immense amount of countries I'd need to create to actually fill this out. Oy.

Anyway, this should be the last map-making post for a while. Today we're rendering random borders using bandages because bandages heal everything; wait no, this isn't anime, I mean we're doing random borders with a cloud render because cloud renders are like a swiss army knife where each tool on it is another swiss army knife.

[spoiler]
Start off with a normal cloud render and then render difference clouds on it once.

Then we add some color to it. I've made this orange/red, but any color works. This is just to up the contrast between the black lines and the rest without changing the width of the black line.

Then we take the color selection tool and select the black, and apply a layer mask so that it hides all the orange. You end up with a bunch of lines over the map, which will act as a rough placement for borders.

Next up, country generation, which will commence as soon as I pick a generator to use.

I plan on picking up a real copy eventually. I guess in the meantime I'll comb over the SRD.
