I understand it was designed to be helpful, but I always felt rankings were more likely to turn people away from a book rather than try it and make their own opinion. If people would support it I would gladly make a list where people post their top three 'gotta read this book'.

The ranking thread is nice, but I think it would be more helpful to have a thread where people posted with their favorite books they think others would enjoy. Then you could tally how many people suggested the books so people can see "Hey this book was suggested by five people. I should look into reading it."

Thanks for the great ideas. I made a couple dragons using the chromatic/metallic dragons as a base to start and then changed them in any way I saw fit. I can't wait to see the look on my players faces when that black dragon blasts some goblins with fire breathe!

I'm gonna have each individual dragon be unique, I know that. If you could find that generator, Loch, that would be great.

I was also thinking I could use the dragons already present as a base for making dragons i.e. black dragon for aquatic dragon, white dragon for a weaker dragon etc. Another idea was that all dragons can breathe fire. If I ever wanted to I could make exceptions such as, "The dragons of the Kagroan mountains spew forth blasts off ice to freeze their prey" or something. It'll probably throw my players off for a bit! ; )

Okay. So I have begun my campaign and my group has learned of a dragon that lives off in the mountains not far from the village they are at. Cliche-ness aside I need some help. In my campaign I decided that dragon's are not restricted to alignment by type, but then I thought, "Why should all dragons be from a specific species? Why can't all dragons just be dragons?" So I was wondering if anyone else has tried this and/or has any advice on how well it works. My main concern is that my players will find it to far-flung from previous D&D sessions.

I didn't get it, but I'll keep it in mind. Thanks guys.

Before I go out to my local Game store I wanna ask a question... is Tome of Magic worth it? I mean do you get your moneys worth out of it or should I probably save/spend the money for/on something else?

^ Yeah that's true. I'm thinking i'm gonna tweak the shadowcaster and mix in some warlock abilities. When I'm finished with it I'll put it up. Thanks all!

Fortunately I have the complete Arcane! I didn't occur to me to use the warlock as a base for a new class. Thanks!

Thanks, I'll have to take a look at tome of magic. Are their any other core books with alternate power sources I should look for?

I'm making a 3.5e campaign and I'd like to add a different type of magic source. I've heard about a sourcebook that had shadow magic which sounds good but apparently isn't that balanced. Does anyone know of any casting classes with a different magic source, homebrew or otherwise, aside from psionics that is balanced and unique but easily adaptable?
