Meta (Archived) / 2011 ENnies
July 25, 2011, 04:09:23 PM
Technically speaking, I have no given name.

And to answer the earlier question, I've yet to physically meet him though we're geographically close, so I can't correctly say I like him though I'm sure I would.

But I love his work. He did some supplements for savage worlds and M&M that I've pulled from before. Definitely a solid vote winner.

Hey guys.  Though I pop into the wiki and lurk from time to time, I'm rarely on the forums.  Sorry.  I lurk too much.  Anyways, I just thought I'd make sure that everyone knew the 2011 ENnies voting booth is open right now.

And because I'm American, I can't forget to tell you that I'm running for 2012 ENnies Judge on a Platform of [Whatever You Like to Hear a Politician Say Here].  You can read my write up here.  And you can vote for your 2011 favorite games and the 2012 judges here.

Campaign Elements and Design (Archived) / Wiki Question
September 20, 2009, 12:12:57 PM
I'll see about it, but the Modern stuff is actually the "ancient past" and the D&D stuff is the distant future, so I'll have to find a way to name it so that it doesn't get anymore confusing than it already will be.

Haha, and yes, I'll get my signature code to remove the dump.

Campaign Elements and Design (Archived) / Wiki Question
September 19, 2009, 10:26:18 AM
I'm preparing to pull the rest of Valgora over but had a quick question.  You see, Valgora can be played in different time periods - and depending on the period may use the D&D system or the D20 Modern system.  What I was wondering was, since on the wiki naming convention dictates that the name Valgora be used  on the main page (the D&D system page), how should I name the D20 Modern section?  On the other wiki the page Valgora is just a disambiguation page that links to both, and they are named "Valgora (DnD Campaign Setting)" or  "Valgora (D20 Modern Campaign Setting)."  Obviously on a wiki dedicated solely to campaigns not all of that may be necessary.  Anyways, thoughts?

The Dragon's Den (Archived) / World of Warcraft
September 02, 2009, 09:56:05 PM
I used to play (world champion at uselessness, seriously: wowinsider.com search "Venwe")

I'll be back because I said the only thing that could bring me back was them finally letting me past the wall to see Gilneas, and they're doing it in the expansion.

I'm huge on exploring.  Played back in the beginning been to Designer Isle and GM Isle and all the other spots - but could never get into Gilneas.

Meta (Archived) / Gaming Group Organization
August 31, 2009, 09:14:23 PM
A few years back, some friends and I who hold weekly sessions decided to give our group a nickname in order to help people remember us and to ease recruitment.  Anyways, after talking with another group that did the same out in Vegas, we settled on the Ogres moniker, short for the Organization of Gamers & Roleplaying Enthusiasts.

To make a long story short: it was a massive success.  A gaming group with 9-12 members and 2-3 games has now expanded to include our entire regional gaming community of 45-50 active rpgers and 12-13 active games any year, though us "originals" still are the "core" who keep the moniker going.

So, after setting up more chapters, we're finally working to become a legitimate organization to help with gamer networking.  To stop rambling, I'll cut to the chase: you may be able to set up a chapter in your city and the rewards could be worth it.

Some more information is available here: http://www.dandwiki.com/wiki/Organization_of_Gamers_%26_Roleplaying_Enthusiasts_(3.5e_Other)

May seem cheesy or uber geeky, but it can help a gaming community truly come together, and in the long run we hope to have a fully interactive online site that can streamline regional gaming meetups.

D&Dwiki at http://www.dandwiki.com has over 50,000 SRD and Homebrew articles.

Valgora

A living setting played by members of O.G.R.E.s across our 8 (and growing!) chapters.  Began as a anti-Meta gaming test and has slowly grown to much more.  "Generic" fantasy feel mostly.

I've began the massive process of duplicating everything from www.dandwiki.com over to this wiki - so some of it is here to peruse.

Usually when that has to be stated, it is a lie.  ha.

Thanks all.

Well, hello all.  I'm Hooper.  That is my name.  My Only name.  I'm like Cher, or Bono, minus the fame, wealth, and talent (depending on who you ask - some say they lack this too).

No, seriously.  That is my name.  I'm a husband, father of one with one on the way, small (minuscule) business owner with a 9-5, captain of a chapter of starfleet international, member of h.o.g., and one of the founders of the Quilt City O.G.R.E.s.

Moving on past useless info.

I am mostly a 3.5 user, though I do like some Old World of Darkness, which is what I first played as far as RPGs go.  I've also played World of Warcraft (world champion of uselessness too! http://www.wow.com/tag/Venwe/ ).  However, I haven't played WoW in almost a year, and have been solely an RPG player.

I hate extreme optimization and most people who do it, as they refuse to admit that they don't roleplay it correctly (i.e. I'll take some small flaws to get these min/max traits I want, but won't roleplay the flaw).  I believe that the Same Game Test, and all material by Frank and K, is overpowered cheating hidden under circular thought.

I've played in, as I said earlier, Old WoD, Greyhawk, Forgotten Realms, Star Wars, Star Trek, WoW RPG, and Warhammer.  Mostly, however, our gaming group now roleplays in Valgora - our homebrew world (see sig).

Our influence is our gaming.  Every session creates new places, people, and events that add to the world.

Thanks for the great comments.  The one that I'll have to note is the days of the week and months.  This is done on purpose, which is explained in the About Valgora page.

In that case, the basics are touched up here: http://www.dandwiki.com/wiki/Valgora_(Valgora_Supplement)

Yes, a lot is, as you say, shallow.  Trying to keep it open for future additions as we game in the world and further create it.  It'll just take time.  Lots of it.

My only complaint is some of our silly stuff, but thats what happens when you bring beer to D&D.  Our fault.

Name: Valgora
http://www.dandwiki.com/wiki/Valgora_(DnD_Campaign_Setting)

Basic Premise: Generic Fantasy Setting for Homebrew/Core play
How it began: As a test to keep people from metagaming
How it grew: We fleshed out basic ideas - filled in the map, countries, etc.
How it grows: Our Gaming group, the Quilt City O.G.R.E.s, roleplays in Valgora.  As we explore an area, and NPCs are fleshed out, we add it to the wiki - all part of an ever growing world.
Future: Lots to add - will be duplicating it over to this CBG wiki as well.

Discuss, Critique, Comment, etc.
