Does anyone have a link to official (or nonofficial) rules stating how long it takes to craft specific items? I have a player who's crafting a masterwork composite longbow that supports his strength for damage. I know taking 20 takes twenty times as long to craft, but how long does it take to make a composite longbow in the first place?

Cheers~

The crafting rules are a little obtuse in d20. Start by calculating the total value of the item to be crafted - a comp longbow that's also MW is going to be around 450 gp. Then follow these steps (taken from the d20 SRD):

To determine how much time and money it takes to make an item, follow these steps.

   1. Find the itemâ,¬,,¢s price. Put the price in silver pieces (1 gp = 10 sp).
   2. Find the DC from the table below.
   3. Pay one-third of the itemâ,¬,,¢s price for the cost of raw materials.
   4. Make an appropriate Craft check representing one weekâ,¬,,¢s work. If the check succeeds, multiply your check result by the DC. If the result Ã'" the DC equals the price of the item in sp, then you have completed the item. (If the result Ã'" the DC equals double or triple the price of the item in silver pieces, then youâ,¬,,¢ve completed the task in one-half or one-third of the time. Other multiples of the DC reduce the time in the same manner.) If the result Ã'" the DC doesnâ,¬,,¢t equal the price, then it represents the progress youâ,¬,,¢ve made this week. Record the result and make a new Craft check for the next week. Each week, you make more progress until your total reaches the price of the item in silver pieces.

If you fail a check by 4 or less, you make no progress this week.

If you fail by 5 or more, you ruin half the raw materials and have to pay half the original raw material cost again.

I won't copy the whole table in, but's here's what you need for the bow:

Composite longbow or composite shortbow with high strength rating  Bowmaking  15 + (2 Ã'" rating)

Without a Strength rating the DC is 15.

Hope this helps.
