A little something I whipped up tonight. May lead to better and greater things...

[spoiler=the village]
Adelaide (Thorp)'¨Population: 74
Adelaide is a small village far from the rest of civilized Estwora. It is untouched by time or war and the problems of the Kingdom at large have little effect on the village itself. '¨'¨

Power Center: Adelaide is run by the extraordinarily flamboyant Mayor Polycap. Polycap collects high taxes from the villagers but secretly keeps them hoarded in the basement of his large home. He is a gluttonous pig, and never leaves his home but reclines all day on his sofa stuffing his face with expensive imported food. He is followed everywhere by his two servants who grovel at his every beckon and call. Adelaide is also part of the Kindom of Estwora, and is therefore presides under the Princess' domain.

Places of Interest
Gbemisola the Moneylender - Gbemisola runs a small bank and moneylender out of her   small open-faced shack on Uzoma Avenue. A short awning of red and black silk drips with odd charms and bells that tinkle whenever a small wind (or customer) passes by. Gbemisola is from a far away land and speaks little of the native language. Rather unconventional compared to other merchants, Gbemisola doesn't take any records of customers finances, but seems to keep all their information in her head, and keeps all their money in one place.

Nariss the Merchant - Nariss is a portly, greedy man who runs a shop in Adelaide. he sells basic weapons, adventuring equipment, and some foodstuffs.

Disma's Oddities - A quirky shop at the southern end of Uzoma Avenue is run by the skeletal Disma, a cackling little man with a penchant for burglary. He finds and collects strange or rare items and sells them at inflated prices in is shop.

The Brimming Mug - Fondly termed the Mug, this small tavern and inn is run by a girl named Maede. Maede is not a native of Adelaide, but is an orphan and will not talk about her past. She is looked after by and takes care of Old Man Bodil, a venerable and kind man who lives in a small house behind the Mug.

Bayard's Mounts - Bayard has a small corall just outside of town, down a small dirt path. He sells light horses and ponies. There is a small chance he has either one light or heavy warhorse.
Minali's Fishing Shack - Located a small ways downstream of Adelaide, on the edge of Lake Nimue. He sells basic fishing goods and rents rods and hooks to aspiring fishermen. He runs a contest to see who can catch the biggest fish. The person who catches the silver dagonfish wins a special prize.

Geography
The town lies in a small valley in the Fields of Harmony. A small woodland lies to the east, up a small rise. To the northwest, a small river (which dwindles to a babbling brook near the town) flows and empties into a small lake to the west of town.

Problems
Adelaide is a fairly peaceful village, but it occasionally has problems with the goblin bands that roam the Fields of Harmony that surround the village.

Campaign
Players begin play as simple villagers in Adelaide. They can be apprenticed to the blacksmith, run a small shop, or work at the Brimming Mug. Their whole lives are spent in quiet until they save the village from an attack by goblins.

Ok, I'll bite.
How much of Adelaide lives in thetown proper, and how many farm the land nearby?
does the Thorp have any other economic advantages or disadvantages?
What kind of construction?
Does the princess minions every come into the town?
No religion whatsoever in town?  No healer? No witch?

Love the moneylender...very real.  What languages does she speak?

Would the pcs be serf type villagers or free?

I take it the area in general is prosperous? Is this a safe region?

Lake Nimue...

Most of the villagers live in the town proper. There is only one farming family, since the town is so small. It is run by the father of the horse merchant, Bayard Sr.

love to give feedback on good ideas.

Right now I am debating whether I want this village to fit into a low-magic campaign so that will come later.[/blockquote]
I can't see that.  The magic thing, fine, totally cool with it.  But relgions just DRIVE the town engines. No Friar Farthington to give sermons on the sins of gluttonny, no one to bless the weddings, or bless the crops?  Go back to any medieval or frontier village, and the church is the biggest building.

Maybe itinerant priests of (X) show up now and then, or they have some ceremony to choose an acting priest or priestess to bless the crops or perform the marriages or whatever?

I'm thinking that they would have a small chapel and follow a single deity or trinity but not an entire huge pantheon. Priests could be divine bards. That would be interesting.

Good little thorp.

One question. How does the mayor stay in power if he is collecting such high taxes and does pretty much nothing all day?
