Hello everyone!

This subforum of the CBG (called the Community World-Building Project) is the place where the community of the CBG tries to create a campaign setting (informally dubbed CeBeGia) cooperatively.

The purpose of this thread is to welcome newcomers and show them where we currently stand. Below I shall provide the decisions that have been made in previous polls. Note that at this point we have only a general Core Ethos statement, and even that is still open to some discussion (i.e. not everything here is set in stone yet). Everyone is welcome to contribute here. Just read up on the discussion of any topic(s) you like and leave your own thoughts.

This thread will be kept free of any discussion about the actual content of the setting. Instead, this thread is to ask questions about the project, how it is run, how far it has progressed, etc. Please post in the appropriate Discussion or Vote thread to give your opinion about the content of any part of the setting.

Be creative, and most of all, have fun!

"Then shall the last battle be gathered on the fields of Valinor. In that day Tulkas shall strive with Melko, and on his right shall stand Fionwe and on his left Turin Turambar, son of Hurin, Conqueror of Fate; and it shall be the black sword of Turin that deals unto Melko his death and final end; and so shall the Children of Hurin and all men be avenged." - J.R.R. Tolkien, The Shaping of Middle-Earth

Results of Previous Votes

1. Core Ethos

In our first vote, the following Core Ethos statement (which was basically a summary of many of the earliest ideas that were proposed on this board) was approved of with 17 votes to 1.

The Summary

In the new world, there is a single large and stable country, most likely a tyranny of some sort, it's benevolence is questionable. This tyranny occupies the majority, if not all of a large landmass. This tyranny also possesses a "regular" D&D religion, a polytheistic single pantheon of deities pictured as very powerful humanoid beings.

This tyrranical government is actually a re-emergence of sorts of an ancient empire. Think of the Roman empire, 500 years after its fall, trying to come back to life. There will be parts of the continent that accept the rule, and parts that don't. And much of the middle ground will be barrens, wilderness, ruins, and dangerous territory.

A group of city-states lies across some sort of separative barrier, like a strait, desert, or mountain range. These city-states, although culturally, physically, and politically divided have a sort of cohesive bond because of their shared religion. These people, referred to as "barbarians" by the mainland/tyranny, worship creatures/monsters of great size and power, currently called Totems.

This setting has a conflict of religon, civilization vs. the wilderness, and reality vs. faith.

2. Tone

The second vote ended in a tie between those who desired a "dark/gritty" tone statement for the setting, and those who desired to have no tone statement at all for the setting. Further discussion pending.

3. Classes

In the third vote, we wanted to decide how tightly knit class mechanics should be with the major conflict of the setting (old vs. new, civilization vs. wilderness). The result, with 7 out of 16 votes, is the following:

Default iconic roles like the imperial knight paladins (where most will be found), but with exceptions such as lone heroes, or rogue ex-imperials.

Velox

At the moment I don't really have any critiques or helpful ideas, but I'd just like to say that I love the sound of it. Big questionable empire, small city states across the way... fan-freakin'-tastic way to start it off.

Viva La Revolucion!!!
