Lately, I've been thinking a lot about the Crossroads. It's a cool place for short shorts and poetry open to the community. But it's not really the ideal atmosphere for longer works. For those, I propose forming small groups of two or three aspiring writers (I know there are several here), or just those that like to read a lot.

These writer's critique groups could then review works in more depth and detail than is possible on a public forum (it might also solve the issue for those of us that don't want certain things we're trying to publish floating around the internet right away).

So in the spirit of some of the review queues we've had, if you post a name and description of your work, I'll update this first thread with it. Presently I'm interesting in finding a careful reader for my first novel (important for any author, eh?). If you want your work reviewed, post in the thread. If you find a partner/group, post to let me know, so I can remove you from the queue.

Works in Queue

Groups
Phoenix, Stargate525, Kindling
Time and Tide - Phoenix
My first novel. Semi-dark fantasy. I'd name Dune and Song of Ice and Fire as the biggest influences on theme/style. Complete (122,000 words)

Dragonia - Stargate525
Fantasy tale influenced by more writings than I can remember. In revision.

Untitled - Kindling
Epic dark fantasy, with flintlocks and interplanetary travel and much, much more. WIP
Latest Release: Echoes of Angels

Stargate525

This sounds like a good idea...

I'm looking for someone to review as I re-write my novel. I'm shooting for five pages a week, but I don't know how faithful that will end up being.

The working title is Dragonia, fantasy tale influenced by more writings than I can remember.
My Setting: Dilandri, The World of Five

You couldn't have timed this better, as I finally started work on my book two nights ago. I've so far got a (very) brief prologue, and a lot of ideas.

Epic dark fantasy, with flintlocks and interplanetary travel and much, much more. No title as yet :P

So, Stargate, or Phoenix, I'd be happy to review one of yours' works, although probably I'd be going pretty slow... Anyone who fancies looking at mine, I will say I'll be writing very slowly and erratically, so you might consider that a good or bad thing (less to read through over a longer time, but with possible bursts)

Updated with Dragonia and Kindling's book.

I'm happy to look at both or either. We can pair up or exchange all three (I think more than three to a group is too much when we're talking about novels). However, I think it best to wait at least until this evening to see if any other prospective writers want to sign up.

Numinous

Have you considered moving this to Plotstorming?  It seems to be more appropriate for this sort of thing, and is a part of Fantaseum which should be supported.

That wouldn't be a bad idea - I'm all about good discussions going on over here, but those guys over there work all day with writing, so may be your best source for those types of resources.  I'm sure Nathan and Ashy and all the others over there would love to help you out with that. :)

For finite types, like human beings, getting the mind around the concept of infinity is tough going.  Apparently, the same is true for cows.

Stargate525

I got Phoenix's, and mine should be sent out to both of you guys by tomorrow, or late tonight.

Just wanted to say, I got your PM, Phoenix. I'm thinking as of yet there's not enough of my work written to be really worth sending, but I'll happily review both your guys' books, although it may take me some time to chew through them all, especially as I'm gonna be very VERY busy over the next three weeks.

Anyway, if you want to send me stuff by e-mail it's lefp@gawab.com

Great. I've received work from SG and sent mine to both you guys.

I had not considered Plotstorming. To be honest, I've barely looked at it, because I thought it was for plotstorming (and that for RPGs, which wasn't something I was looking for help on).

I'll check it out and try to migrate the thread later today or tomorrow, I guess.

It's no biggie either way - I wasn't trying to force you to go somewhere else.  They have some very talented writers over there who are getting published, and who may have some great opinions about all you guys' fiction.  That's all. :)

I know when I've been asked to leave

Actually, I did shoot Nathan a PM to see what he thought and how to best work the idea. I spent a little time looking around Plotstorming and found it a nice place.

Awww, I hope you know that certainly isn't/wasn't the case. :)
