Okay, so lately I've been receiving some huge compliments on Xiluh, usually to the tune of it being amongst the top settings in the community. To be honest, I'm more then a little confused (although very honored) about all of this praise. I can think of a few settings-- although i'd rather not mention which ones, yet-- that I consider much better then Xiluh. Maybe I'm just being blindly humble, but I think there's tons of room for improvement in all of my settings. Because of all of this, I got to wondering: just where does the community at large see Xiluh? Then that thought was extended a bit further: just where does the community at large see any given setting?

So, I'm asking you, the community at large. Just what are your three favorite settings, in order? Although I'm sure you all have pride in your own settings, I'd prefer you mention settings made by other members. I may even devise a simple ranking system, in case anybody is curious how this goes, but I don't think I'll post the results of the system publicly.

Well I haven't yet taken a look at Xiluh (though I probably should). Off the bat though I would have to say my favorite setting is Celtricia. Though I have had a chance to truly experience that one.

Numinous

1. The Jade Stage - world-building as art
2. The Nightmare - A beautiful horror story
3. Sulos - The setting I could see myself running a game in

Honorable Mention: Kishar - mythology interpretation has a special place in my heart.
Previously: Natural 20, Critical Threat, Rose of Montague
- Currently working on: The Smoking Hills - A bottom-up, seat-of-my-pants, fairy tale adventure!

I think Xiluh really stands out from typical fantasy settings because of its differences.

I've seen a number of settings here I've liked quite a lot, but, to be honest, I haven't spent as much time reading settings in last year as before, and it's harder to remember settings I haven't looked at or read about in over a year. Of those I've read more recently or remember, I suppose I'd mention Shadowfell, Haveneast, and Jade Stage.

Also, Dilandri and Rilos ap Fol (sp?) stand out in my mind.

Quote3. Sulos - The setting I could see myself running a game in
Sigh. I miss Sulos.

Kindling

I always liked Dystopia. A lot.

I also think that The Wonders, the Mysteries is very well thought-out and written, with staggering attention to detail.

Not sure one the third choice.

I'll have to check Xiluh out, last time I looked at it it was still VERY embryonic.
all hail the reapers of hope

I must admit, I haven't really read much about any of the settings on here.

My favourite published setting is Rifts, though the system for that game is craptastic.
One of these days I'll actually get organized enough to post some details on my setting / system.
