Quote from: IshmaylThere's nothing wrong with naming your setting after its principal location(s) (Celtricia, Haveneast, Eberron, Greyhawk, many others), in fact, I think it's a very legitimate way of naming the campaign.

So how does Karros sound for a setting name?

Depends on how it's pronounced. ;)

If you pronounce it "KEHR-oss," ("eh" sound in first syllable, short "oh") I really like that sound, it flows off my tongue well.  If you pronounce it "KAHR-ose" ("ah" sound in first syllable, long "oh"), it feels weird to me.  If you pronounce it some other way, then I'll have to evaluate it after you tell me.

For finite types, like human beings, getting the mind around the concept of infinity is tough going.  Apparently, the same is true for cows.

Karros is pronounced KEHR-ose so a mix with an eh sound up front but a long o after.

The Teran Empire formerly known as The Human Empire is a sort of pseudo-Rome and Greece mashup, so I went with Latin (I think) Tera for Earth.  I'm never sure if I got the spelling right, whether it's Tera or Terra, so I kind of switch back and forth randomly.

It's Terra and Terran. Tera means one trillion

No problem. Just be wary should you happen to invite any starcraft junkies to your session.

While the name of my setting, Avayevnon, is also the name of the world, the name itself came from taking the word "Renaissance" and making a sort of Greek bastardization of it.  "Renaissance" spelled in Greek letters looks roughly like "Avayevvnon."  I didn't care for the double v, so I dropped one and here we are!

Sounds good to me then. :)

I think Wake was so named because it was a pun; time-wise it's set immediately after the death of the last universe, fluff-wise its really about the Creator "waking up" to a universe he didn't like and attempting to annihilate it.  I didn't really agonize over a name, it just dawned on my early in my scribblings.  My more traditional settings rarely have a name for the entire planet -- strangely none of my players have even asked after one.

I don't think players really think about it all that much. I've found that many, if not all, of the RL groups I've played with have little interest in the world they're playing in and are only interested in what directly affects them. So to get them interested in the world you have to introduce aspects that directly affect them. PbP games seem to spawn much more interested players in the setting.

Eladris, as always Wake is epic levels of awesome, and the name reflects that. :)
