Originality: Three Worlds Magic Changes?

In the story side of it, your strength with an element is supossed to be directly tied to the strength of your chakra. The more you exercise your chakra, the stronger it gets. The stronger your chakra gets, the stronger the ability scores associated with it get. I'm not certain which comes first, though; for instance, I'd like Strength to be attached to Fire, and working out should increase your Strength. Increasing your Strength will increase your Fire Chakra. But will increasing your Fire Chakra directly, though casting fire magic, increase your physical score?

Either way, the idea is it should be easier to specialize than to diversify. Small diversification should be possible, but being great at two elements would be difficult.

In that case, it sounds like you would be best served to create a separate class for each element and let multiclassing account for diversification.

I need help with the Void thing. I can't find my old notes which had what I made for the Air and Earth void spheres. If I can't find anything, I need to remove void from the other four elements and make it its own thing (with light/darkness and life/death as void powers).

I know I had came up with something, and I thought I had posted it online on this board or the WotC boards. The WotC board changover means I can't search for it, and our search function didn't find it here.

That was a splash. I still can't find my notes. I always wanted true Void casters to be something special (though there was a time when Void was generally "divine" things). I could have sworn I had found something void for air and earth, but I can't seem to recall it.

Does anyone have any ideas?

For earth maybe something like dust?  Like destroyed earth.

Air...poison? Or the ability to removed the air from the lungs of a foe?

I like that idea, Ninja.  The word you're looking for is "Vacuum", I think.

Yeah, a kind of vacuum would probably be good for air.  Within the D&D 4E system there is already precedent for pulling targets with spell so you could also add some control to void by making them be able to move their targets around.

I don't intend to use the Quasi-elements from 2E Planescape, though I kind of did with fire. The quasi-elements (which were combinations of the traditional 4 and the positive/negative energies) were:

Fire: Radiant (pos) and Ash (neg)
Earth: Mineral (pos) and dust (neg)
Air: Lightning (pos) and vaccume (neg)
Water: Steam (pos) and salt (neg)

Except for Radiant, I don't think any of these offer enough uses except scrict evocative applications.

One thing, though, is "Creation" was always intended to be part of Earth. Fabrication type spells would be here, as well as spells that enhance items (a temporary magic item spell would be in here, though I'm not sure if that works in 4E anymore).

It's really wracking my brain, as I could have sworn I had figured this part out at one time.

Ash and dust are awfully similar.

This might be stretching it a bit, but what about the neg of Fire being Frost or Ice or just Cold?

Here's how the 2E elements worked:

Air
Earth
Fire
Water
Positive
Negative

Air+Fire = Smoke
Air+Water = Cold
Earth+Fire = Magma
Earth+Water = Ooze

Then the quasi's that were mentioned.

---------

I'm not using those. I might use variations on those mixed elements (air+fire would be lightning and fire+earth would be metal), but probably not. I will not be using the ash/dust/salt/vaccume stuff.

My Positive/Negative are not amoral concepts, they're the forces of Light/Dark, which is practically good/evil. Sure, a darkness spell doesn't hurt anyone, but it is still tapping into the "dark side".

Part of me is thinking my Void for earth be Creation/Destruction, the manipulation of structure; alternately, Creation would be Earth's mental and its Void would be Warding/Binding (something seems familiar about this, I think it's what I was doing in the past). My Void for Air could have something to do with vitality, the spectral spirit (astral projection and stuff), and maybe even possession; these ideas seem familiar, but I can't piece them together.

Stupid pain killers messing with my memmory.
