Kindling, I have to say that I am absolutely in love with this setting from a fiction standpoint, which is what I am looking at it as right now because you don't have any rules up (or intention to make rules for it immediately). It is dark, harsh, deadly, and war-torn. I can easily imagine all sorts of drama taking place in the midst of its many battles.

Most importantly, you managed to inspire emotions in me. Off the top of my head, without looking over what I read and making a point by point list, the canibalistic elements really struck a chord in me. Cannibalism is revolting to me, and as a player such an element would really drive me to action. It absolutey sends shivers down my spine, especially the savagry and mystery of the Uéllae's hunt.

Your races are also very interesting. I see you're using orcs, but you haven't described them yet. I really like the Uéllae, and the Faelin are amazingly described as well.

To answer your question, the Crabs have to be Water, there's really no other way you can do it (especially since Earth is already used). If they're truely crustacean, they're going to need to spawn in water, as crustacean larvae are entirely aquatic. Them having huge migrations to ancestral spawning grounds would help make them quite un-human.

The last thing I have to say at the momment (other than keep it coming) is that I offer my crunchy expertise to help you make stats for any of your stuff (races, house rules, what-ever) for 3E or 4E. Your setting inspires me.
Endless Horizons: Action and adventure set in a grand world ripe for exploration.

Proud recipient of the Silver Tortoise Award for extra Krunchyness.

I seem to have missed these last few posts in my enthusiasm for Knife's Edge. Thanks for the positive feedback, guys, especially mikeg, your praise makes me feel all warm and mushy inside :)

I just wanted to post here to a) thank you for your comments and b) say that just because I'm currently focussing on my new setting doesn't mean I've abandoned Reth. I will definitely come back to it at some point, although at the moment I'm far more engrossed in the possibilities of the Edge.
all hail the reapers of hope

I just took at look at Reth Jaleract.

My favorite thing about it are the Voidseekers, their quest to find the mental void.

Also, I though that Urualyey was interesting, addressing the food problem of a moving city was a nice touch.

Seems like a world full of strife, with the Humans suddenly appearing.

However one thing that bothered me, and I can't quite pin down why exactly, is you say that the Uéllae have the patience of the long lived and they won't renew the war.

Now if they couldn't I would understand, but I don't understand how being patient would let you abandon a large part of your people, especially when those who did it to them would die out before you got revenge.

Another point would be, if they're so long lived, wouldn't they mourn premature death so much more? As losing so many more years of life left to live.

I also found that the Hunt fit in with the Uéllae.
