Excellent art. Is the flail also used as a musical instrument or is it simply meant to be a noisy weapon?

I suppose one could, but to the Vorr, the only good music is battle-music. I also want the bell-flail to play into the Vorr archetype backstory. After they reach the age of maturity (or some other event) they are given their bell-flail and journey across Arga paying homage to their god and looking for enough high quality steel to replace the amount used in the creation of their own bell-flail. Steel good enough for the Vorr, however, is exceedingly rare, and these "walks" can take many many years.

And then they have to carry all that damn steel back... I can imagine a Vorr with several large random pieces of iron taken from various places strapped to his back as he wanders about.
But the new Vorr looks pretty awesome :D Maybe he should look slighly angrier, though ^^
And I'm guessing the Bell-flail is far too heavy to be used by ordinary men? Will a human be about chest-height or shoulder height? Are they against armor in general, or were you just showcasing how the race looked physiologically?

I suppose someone that's very strong could use the bell-flail, but they're rare, and having one is a sure way to piss of a Vorr. They are never given as gifts to non-Vorr, so having one means you most likely stole it or killed a Vorr and took it.

And humans would be at shoulder height.

As for armor, I want it to be rare in Arga (for all races) for a couple reasons. First is the importance of the sea and sailing. I feel like wearing even something like chainmail would be awfully uncomfortable, hot, and dangerous - one slip overboard and you could sink like a rock. Second is the climate - warmish for the most part. Thirdly, high-quality steel is rare. I think having armor be somewhat rare and light fits with the Greekpunk visual theme. Another example is the human doodle back in the thread.

all true, but the Vorr were designed for your far north and are known for their steelcraft. And I don't envision them as the greatest sailors, correct me if I'm wrong.
As for greek-punk in general, some armor on the shoulder or sword arm should still be in line with the tone (if not plate then at least some leather). A chopped off arm is pretty uncomfortable as well, after all :p

north may change to mountains. plus they're bad ass, so the cold ain't no thing.

and true, the Vorr most likely don't like sailing at all, but you have to get around some how, and traveling by land in Arga is dangerous and arduous. not to mention time consuming.

While armor can be heavy it actually isn't 'that' much. The average person who would be using chainmail would have no trouble swimming in it. Even plate mail won't drag you down like a rock (though I wouldn't want to swim in it for long, would be exhausting). Typical medieval era fighting armor weighed roughly 50 lbs, I know a few soldiers who have had to swim while carrying that much or more on their back. Even with the lessened mobility one could still stay above the water provided they were strong (see: a warrior) and knew how to swim. That being said nothing wrong with little armor... I think it fits your setting feel nicely. Greek Punk indeed heh.

Quite apart from the fact that this looks like a really interesting setting (although I admit I've only really skimmed it), I'd love to see more of your drawings. The, as you call it, greekpunk aesthetic is great and some more images of different races and/or people from different social stations and walks of life would be really nice to see.

I concur, honestly I would love to contract you for some Mare Eternus artwork. You're a good artist.

O Senhor Leetz

alright, once my internet starts working better I'll have some more sketches posted. Two will be of two new races (one PC, the other prob not - you'll see why.)

the first are the Autmatoi. Creations of a long-dead god of forging and artifice, they're basically near-immortal bronze constructs. To counter their huge strength and toughness, every Automatoi has at least one "tick" - some hefty flaw. Also, they are kinda like gold fish. Their memories only last 77 years. So even though they are centuries old, they can only remember the last 77 years of their lives. Plus they sink if they fall into the sea, so they usually sit in the cargo hold and tie barrels to themselves, just in case. An Automatoi that just walked its way out of the sea after falling in 30 years earlier could be a cool starting story for an Automatoi PC.

the other race is the Maeren - basically the mermaids/sea people of Arga (bad PC race, unless they want to chill in the seas the whole time) Somewhat feral and savage, but still noble. Occasionally trade with the "Dirt-People"

oh, an thanks for all the compliments on my sketches!

I love the 77 year memory of the Automatoi. And the walking out of the sea bit could be quite cool, especially if his memory grew blurred between the time he went in and the time he came out. Do they remember skills?
