I'm building a section of my site dedicated to world building. Under the main title, I'll most likely have a little line of 7 words or less that expresses what world building is. However, I am feeling a bit uncreative and I thought I'd see if anyone had a summary of what world building means to them that would easily fit on a bumper sticker.

Just a conspiracy of cartographers, then?

This is probably not too helpful for you, but my big cliché for gaming is "Lights, Camera, Action!" where Lights are the worldbuilder, Camera is the DM, and Action is the players.

The worldbuilder provides the ambience for the game, setting the stage with "lighting" and other elements of time, place, and mood. The DM selects the "camera angle" from which we view the entire game and the pace at which we experience it,  and the players provide the Action-- they're the ones doing all the interesting things that make us care about the game.

Too long to be used as a slogan, though. I'll brainstorm for a bit and see if I can't come up with anything better.

That's pretty cool. I tend to think of the whole thing as a 4 part process myself, with the World Builder, Adventure Writer, Game Master and Players. A lot of people group the Writer and Master into one person because the Master often has to alter the script created by the writer. Then of course the Master and Writer change the overall work of the Worldbuilder, so I see them as separate entities that work well as the the same person.

Good thoughts. Anyone else?
