I have trouble making layers.

Perhaps I can help you. Let's see...

I draw something, and then add a layer, and the thing I drew is on the new layer... and when I erase it from the new later, it erases it from the old layer too. :(

How do you add the new layer? If you just "add" the layer, then it's empty with nothing on it. Only if you "duplicate" a layer, it has the same content as the original.

Also, make sure you are working on the right layer. In the "layers" window, the blue highlighting marks which layer you're currently manipulating.

Finally, check the layer's visibility options. I can't explain all options right now, but if you play around a little you should find out fairly quickly what "additive", "overlay", or "xor" mean.
