I believe both of you have read Xiluh. Unfortunately, I don't think "sound[ing] very much electronic" would be fitting, but I trust one or both of you can come up with something!

I'll start work tomorrow.

Go for it.  Electronic doesn't really fit with normal fantasy nor would most anything I could make even halfway decent.  Still, if someone wants it, it is out there.

Quote from: Ninja D!... Electronic doesn't really fit with normal fantasy...

That's relevant to this site... how?

By the way, if you really wanna work on a setting like this, maybe take a look at that Cyberpunk Project I started. There's certainly enough wiggle room for artistic license, and due to the nature of the project, it might as well become an official theme, anyway.

The music for Xiluh is so far sounding a lot more Indian than Mesoamerican... is this a problem? I can see why it might be, but I feel it still represents the feelings of exoticism and so forth inherent in the Xiluh setting...

Due to software issues I'm having to compose a lot of this based on royalty-free loops I'm downloading, rather than actually writing the various instrumental parts from scratch, as I'd prefer. I wish I could afford some better software instruments :(

EDIT: Actually, I don't wish I could afford them, I wish they were free.

Here are some of the sites I use:

http://www.kvraudio.com/

http://www.tweakbench.com/

http://www.yohng.com/piano.html

I've used the 4Front Piano module multiple times, always sounds great.   KVR has VSTi, VST, and other soundsynths, literally tons and tons of them, but you have to search for them.

For finite types, like human beings, getting the mind around the concept of infinity is tough going.  Apparently, the same is true for cows.

If anyone wants to take a stab at the Cadaverous Earth, I'd be very very very pleased.  In terms of music I'd imagine lush macabre tones, like a nocturne, perhaps with a more savage or primordial undercurrent, the throb of an electronic heartbeat or something similar.  But honestly anything vaguely gothic, baroque, eerie, or "weird punk" would totally fit the bill.

Kindling

Another setting I'd absolutely love to compose for, but unfortunately I have my hands full with Xiluh at the moment. Maybe, if no one else beats me to it, after I've finished...

Ninja D!

I'll be leaving for work soon but after I wake up tomorrow (I do the overnighters) I will take a look at Cadaverous Earth.  It sounds more up my alley.

@Kindling : No one says we can't both do it.  You also seem to be able to make more time for it.

EDIT : I just took a look at the setting.  I didn't read much but...if I get time, I'll start working on music tomorrow.  This one may even get me to take out a guitar and a couple effects pedals and hook up the old recording equipment again.

Ninja D!

I haven't started the music yet as I have been a bit busy.  However, I think I will base it pretty much on the first paragraph of your thread about the setting.  As I read further I felt that each individual section could easily deserve its own bit of music but that would be a bit much.  So, before I get started, I thought I would allow you to give me a different general overview of the setting than the one in the thread, if you want to.

Nomadic

Well if anyone wants to create some music for Karros feel free to do so. My picture of it would be best described as classical with a sad/somber feel to it in general.

Here are a few examples to help get the feel for what I mean:

Sadness and Sorrow
Long Walk Home
The Composer

Hmm a general overview eh?  The Cadaverous Earth is basically a post-apocalyptic, "dying earth" world in which civilization has gone to hell and only seven major cities remain, half-ruinous but still seething with the survivors of various catastrophes.  Undead (grave-spawn), demons, oneiroi (nightmares made flesh), and a wide variety of grotesque creatures usually taking their cues from slimy, hideous animals (hagfish, leeches, snakes, centipedes, tapeworms, spiders) all inhabit the world alongside the humans, or "quick."  There are basically two central settings: the ultra-decadent, ultra-violent Twilight Cities, full of politicking, cutthroats, clockwork, and crime, and the ragged frontier of the Slaughter-lands, a hungry waste infested with various nasties but which also contains lots of old treasures and relics.  Themes include the appetites and consumption (cannibalism is commonplace), parasitism, madness, flesh vs. spirit, and death and resurrection.
