I present to you.... Chicken Scratches!

I made a quick little doodle this morning, based loosely on the album Who Will Survive, and What Will be Left of Them?, by Murder By Death. The art style is just as loosely based on Mike Mignola, although this has been my preferred style lately. It's not my normal style. Since the original 5-minute sketch, I later took another five minutes to add a bit of background, although I knew I should have started it again from scratch.

Anyway, I tried running it through Photoshop to get rid of all the junk, but unfortunately, there's still all this ugly linework in it. Oh well, Rome wasn't built in a day, and I doubt the Sistine Chapel was done in 10 minutes.

I entitled this, Facing Your Demons. What does everybody think?

I'm trying to get a handle on the expressions...what are you trying to convey in them?

Aggression in the demon, and a sort of blend between bitter stubbornness and a "put it all on black" sense of hopelessness in the cowboy. The pre-scanned version shows that a lot better.

Interestingly enough, though, my parents thought the cowboy looked hungover. Of course, my mom also thought the revolver was a switchblade, so...

Interesting design. To me personally the demon looks intrigued and curious, almost as if this cowboy just walked up to him. The cowboy meanwhile looks somewhat nonchalant about the whole thing. Are those holes in the demons chest from where the cowboy shot him?

As a matter of fact, yes they are. The smoke coming from them is a little harder to identify, since so many smudges were emphasized when I ran this through the contrast adjustments.
