Very interesting idea for a game. I actually think that the main ideas--the Great Wheel and the realms of authority---are two simple key concepts. In spite of the way D&D has presented the notion of vastly complicated worlds I think that simplicity as a basic idea is in some ways more fun. You're free then to make the complexity arise from the plotlines of campaigns in the setting.

So do you have a basic breakdown of how to put together characters in your setting?

I do, or at least I think I do. I will be referring to OA, just so I don't accidentally copy anything from there, in a process of idea, develop, compare than alter...

I actually want to start working on this right away, its just I am currently buried in side projects I'm trying to get out of the way. I'm finishing up creating a symbol set for ProFantasy, probably another 10 days at that - that's the big project in the way. I am also creating maps for the publisher I will be collaborating with to develop and publish the adventure arc - I'm half way through that task. Iron Crown Enterprises has a couple of maps they want me to create for an upcoming adventure. After that, I'm clear to spend all my time working out Kaidan.

My goal is to be ready to publish the Adventure Arc in June, but bearing in mind I have to have a simplified version of my updated rules set, might push that later than I planned. My long explanation of my various classes and the differences to the OA rules my second post before this one, is point in the direction of how I'll break down my character classes.

I guess I need:

1. Available Races of Kaidan
2. Available Classes of Kaidan
3. An Honor System
4. Karma System (for purposes of reincarnation)
5. Martial Arts system of Feat Clusters for various fighting styles
6. New Feats
7. New Spells and existing spell lists for various spellcaster types.
8. Equipment List
9. New Prestige Classes available
10. Background Material for Kaidan: origin mythos, society, government, religion, culture, climate, ecology and monsters
11. Explanation of the Wheel of Life concept, the matter of PC death, reincarnation and multi-classing with memory awakening. And perhaps a hint of salvation through enlightenment.
12. The curse of becoming a Yurei Ghost in Kaidan and how to avoid it.

I can probably avoid creating my "Obake: beastiary of Kaidan" as of yet, just place 2 or 3 monsters that will show up in a given adventure, included with the adventure.

Just developing my thoughts on this.
