Instead of generating the map in photoshop you could use the random map generator in Heroes of Might and Magic III if you have that game. It does a good job of simulating workable maps.

Nah it's not dead, it's just basically the third project I have going and I've been putting all my effort into redoing my old Abandonment setting.

I'll get back to this soon I hope.
