Well, we have a thread devoted to the idea of a medieval aged Star wars, and since i feel this forum could handle just one more dump load of absolute raw geekary.

So, in my musing with re-exploring turning Pokemon into a table top rpg using FATE, i have decided to explore a concept i had rolling around in my head for a long time. Yes, you guessed it. A steampunk Pokemon universe.

One of the main goals of this project is to create a Pokemon game where the main emphasis isn't on "catching them all", but is mainly about the adventure of the whole thing. I love playing Pokemon games, but i've never been one of those 100% completion nuts who felt the need to "catch them all". Nowadays it's next to impossible anyways because of all the over 500 species of Pokemon now in existence any.

Why steampunk?
Why not steampunk? Part of this though is to eliminate one of the issues plaguing the series, and that is the apparent lack of an educational system. In these times, you usually just went to elementary school, and college was usually an elitist thing.

What system are you using?
As mentioned before, i was experimenting with FATE, and this is merely an extension of that experiment to see how far i can take it.

Are you going to be listing all of the pokemon?
Heck no! I'm going to allow pokemon on a case by case basis, or tweaking them so they make sense in my world. Personally, i like generations 1-3, but then after that...

Where will it be set?
The Pokemon franchise has always made it clear that it's set on earth, it just hasn't been made clear where the Pokemon came from. So it well be set in this world, just in the 1800's. Also instead of setting it in a region, i've decided to make it global in nature.

So where are the Pokemon from?
Later.

When are you going to finish up Dynama?
When i don't have nearly as much college breathing down my neck. I'll begin reworking on it in a couple of weeks at the end of the quarter.

Ninja D!

I think that the Pokemon franchise has always clearly not set on Earth.

You seem to have a very precise idea of what steampunk is. First of all along those lines, you do know that it isn't actually a period of Earth's history, right? Your saying, "these times" has me a bit concerned about that. Second, is there one particular setting that represents your idea of steampunk?

Beyond that, I know most of what there is to know about the Pokemon games so I'll offer what help I can.

Well, if you watch the movies (First four), I'm very sure that they mention that the pokemon world is set in some futuristic earth. Besides, my back story only works on this planet anyway.

Pokemon isn't set on Earth, it's on a world that is based off of earth. By this I mean that Kanto, Johto, Hoenn and the other one are based of geographical areas of Japan. Unova is based of the Greater New York area.

As far as I know that's the only connection.

LoA

Well whatever, i'm setting it on earth 19th century. Deal!
Also, the beginning of my origin story for my world is up. what do you guys think so far?

Yes, i'm well aware that steampunk doesn't have to be historically accurate, i just wan't to set it in the late 1800's, because i thought i heard in one of the movies that pokemon was set on planet earth.

As for the best rpg... I can't really think of anything. I guess the term "futurepast" is the best description for it.

I get it. I tend to think of generic steampunk being a sort of twist on a Victorian-era England with strange, too-advanced, steam-powered technology. Like Mutant Chronicles in effect. Or very much like Fullmetal Alchemist but with steamtech in place of alchemy. I've actually met and talked to the creator of a setting that I think was called Gaslight...might be worth checking out.
