Cyclopides[/u]

 Cyclopides are rock like creatures, vaguely humanoid that wade through the depths of the Center Sea. The name is misleading though, instead of one eye (as you would expect) on the head, they have an enormous toothy mouth large enough to swallow a standard trade ship whole. The are evil creatures of the ancient times. They have even been cited in the dwarven murals oscalae. On the palms of their enormous hands are murky eyes and dark pupils.

They are thought to have once been servants of Meradoch, the Ousted god of dark waters. (swamps,bogs etc.) and can be found near the swamps north of the Sea of Lakes. They are primal creatures full of evil intent and malice. Attempts at communication with the Cyclopides quickly turn disastrous, though they are capable of speech, and have shown intelligence in their handmade (cyclopide-made?) weapons. Clubs, slings from which they hurl enormous boulders, and shafts of wood that some have speculated are attempts at spears. (though these kind of reports are infrequent for the obvious reasons)

I see you revised the senate. But I won't spare you from this nitpick :-p

The Senate is a council of eleven men and woman who have taken a vow of honor to the people of Gladyre. They have to be elected from each of the eleven districts of Gladyre at the age of 15. Nine are elected from each district, and one more as a popular vote from any of the districts.

Shouldn't that be two more? 9 + 1 = 10 != 11...

The Cyclopides are nice and creepy. I guess they only attack with one hand when using weapons, since they'd need the other one free for keeping an eye open? Do they actually eat ships, or was that statement just to give an idea of their size?

Ah, tell me you are a professional editor. I can see how the wording of that paragraph can be misleading. The problem lies in the second sentence , ("they have to be elected....)  It should be:

 The senate is a council...The prospective candidates are elected from each of the eleven districts of Gladyre at the age of 15.  The elected are not yet Senators, but elected to the college. So nine from each district(9x11=99)+1 (popular vote)=100 total per class. Classes are in succession, (like highschool, fresh,sophemore,junior,senior,) with the addition of another (post-senior) this is the really nitty-gritty class, actually working and talking with the Senators.

What I should have mentioned was that the school literally puts the top students into the Senators seats. So the top eleven students make Senator.

Whew.

Cyclopides kinda came in a flash of inspiration today. I did not give a whole lot of thought to them other than that little blurb. Yeah, I guess they only attack with one hand when using weapons, but alternately I like the idea of this enormous terrible creature literally blind with rage when using weapons like a spear or two-handed club. Oh, and they do actually eat ships.
Crew, cargo, sails, and all.

Edit: The cyclopides name comes from the legend about how they were at one time (traditional) cyclops'. It is said they fought with the Ousted in the civil war, and as punishment had their eyes struck out. The held there hands too their bleeding socket and lo and behold they had eyes in their hands. (note to self edit the edit.)

Now that makes a lot more sense. So the election really is for people to fill all kinds of government positions, since most will never actually become senators.

That is a good bit of background lore, very mythology-ish. Do traditional cyclops still exist, or were they all transformed?

If I can find a use for such a race, then absolutely. Maybe a more civilized race of cyclops, ones that interact peacably with the other races. Obviously there would be some bad joo-joo between Cyclopides and true cyclops'.
