This is truly the beginning of the end for humanity.

The really scary thought is in combining these. I foresee talking zombie cyborg rats. One can only tremble at the thought of what comes after that.

What good can come from empowering Rodents with Cyborg technology? And what about all of the other animals Science has chosen to improve? I'm sure the Sharks with Lasers attached to their heads feel jipped!

Nomadic

I see your problem, you aren't grasping the nature of science. Science is an art of intelligence, not wisdom. You ask science "why" and science responds "why not". You may see the doom of the world at the hands of cyborg vermin. Science just sees a freaking awesome rat brain powered robot.

-It's a safe, legal step to creating neural-responsive prosthetics and enhancements for humans.
-It allows us to learn about brain development and adaptation.
-Organic computing.

Those all seem rather noble causes, eh? Should be fine as long as no one hooks the rats up to weapons.

The goals are always noble until some one makes the rat brained cyborg tank... :P

Safe for us humans, maybe. I can't help but wonder if the rats are just as pleased with the situation.

Prooobably confused as fuck, at least. I'm not sure how much pain a disembodied brain could actually feel, and for that matter i'm not sure how much of the rat's brain is actually used.

If it's not an entire brain, it seems like the rat's ability to perceive any suffering would be negligible. (Of course, they'd be dead still, so there's that.)

Now do it with a human brain GO!
