Seriously, I want to know how many people are worried about this.  I don't expect people to be.  It's just that every time I see a 4e thread I want to know how many people are actually expecting/worried about it and whether it's just a few people who keep getting paranoid about these rumors.  Feel free to post an expansion of your answer if you feel the poll does not cover it adequately.

I'm scared. So scared. *twitches*

They're coming for me!

Hmm. Anyway. I'm not really, actually paranoid.

Meh. Polls still not working. Anyways, I couldn't care less. If and when 4E comes out, I'll decide whether or not to switch over to it. If it's soon, I most likely won't (at least for a while). The fact that no new material for 3.5 will be generated doesn't really matter to me as I only have five books and no plans to buy any more.

"Then shall the last battle be gathered on the fields of Valinor. In that day Tulkas shall strive with Melko, and on his right shall stand Fionwe and on his left Turin Turambar, son of Hurin, Conqueror of Fate; and it shall be the black sword of Turin that deals unto Melko his death and final end; and so shall the Children of Hurin and all men be avenged." - J.R.R. from a marketing standpoint, from what i understand, 4E will pretty much have to be compatible to d20. WotC has a good thing going with the OGL, and i think they know that. why else would they come out with 3.5 when they could have came out with 4E?

4E is not something that worries me, at all.

That's funny, I've heard a lot about WotC focusing a lot more on miniatures and Magic, since they're the big sellers.... what do you guys think of this?

One of the WotC posters asked one of the big-wigs at Gen-Con about 4th edition stuff like this. Apparently they were told that D&D has been making a good amount of money, and is "Very Profitable" by the person's admition.

Additionally, they did hear that Grayhawk is being severed from Core for 4th Edition; when 4th does come out, Grayhawk will no longer be the core setting, and it will be licensed out to another company.

I'm actually excited about the prospects of a 4th Edition. I know it will still be d20 and old material will still work with it, and I'm very excited about D&D's current "metamorphosis" as Xanthan put it.

I don't really care that much. Hell, I'll still probably prefer 2e over it or any other edition (though I use 3.5 for my settings most of the time). There was something about 2e that made D&D seem really wondrous in my mind, and if 4e can capture that, maybe I'll be a little more interested.

A while back (before 3.5 or Unearthed Arcana), a friend and I discussed what 4e might entail, including a new magic system, a health system very similar to the WP/VP one in UA,  different or more specific monster groupings, and a class system that let you 'buy' your class features and abilities kind of like the Generic Classes do in UA (except you're buying everything, from proficiencies to attack power to saves to even your race). Maybe 4e will feature some of that stuff, or maybe not.

I'm interested to see what, if any setting will be used as the 4e Core. FR? Eberron? Mystara? Ravenloft? Something totally new?

Numinous

I'll be royally pissed if 4e comes out before 2008.  I'll probly buy the complete collection of 3.5 books and use them for ideas and the pictures, but move on to 4e, just not buy anything other than Core.

Oh, and in response to the question, I'm not worried, just frustrated.  I spent $400 on my 3.5 collection the other day, and those books will be void if/when 4e arrives.

Did it take my vote? Is it just refusing to show me the results cause it doesn't like me.

I'm not worried about 4e coming out before 2020. If it does, I'll just ignore it 'till then. In any case, I'll be filthy rich and probably too busy to care at that point.

Conincidently, I've got a d20 based system that works like that being developped in my head. Anybody want to help with it?

I'm of the oppinion that it'll only get worse as the vast majority of capitalists become fatter and lazyer.

Actually, I'd look foward to seeing a revision of the rules.  A lot of the changes mentioned by WitchHunt would be very positive.

ive heard of a third-party book called 'buy the numbers', and judging from what ive heard, thats the same idea.

only, now that i think of it, i think that book applies to character advancement, to prevent some of the clunkiness of level-based advancements...

Death_Jester

I'm not really all that worried about the whole 4th Ed thing. Because if that does happen I will probably just stick with either 3.5 or just convert everything over to the Hero System and go from there.  If I do convert over to the hero system at least I can get rid of that Fire and Forget spell system that makes magic seem so vanilla, to me.

...but then again what do I know?  I'm a fool.
