Looking to play in a PbP or IRC D&D game

My current real-life group has not been able to meet up and play lately due to the difficulty in getting 4 adults together in the same room. I've been looking to supplement my real-life gaming with a heavy dose of online IRC and/or PbP gaming. I've tried the OOTS forum but they don't offer any IRC gaming (which is something I think is quite unique about the CBG) and the sheer volume of people means a newbie like myself often goes unheard. For that reason, I wanted to try and get a game going over here on the CBG. I'm looking to help start (or join) a PbP or IRC game that uses the 3.x or 4E D&D systems.  I'll leave the decision of level, world and all that jazz up to the DM.

If you're interested in playing or DMing (especially the latter) post here and let's get something started! :)

I would love to play! I'm more familiar with 4e than 3.5 as that is the system my group was using before the fall semester... Ive never played an IRC game but I think that would be the way to go as long as there is enough interest. I could probably swing a good solid session twice a month. (about every two weeks?)

I'd be well up for playing in something (not so much running a game though, at least not at the moment) Although time zones might be a bit of an issue if most of you guys are, as I'm assuming, across the pond from me, but I'm sure we could work something out, or just do a PbP so it doesn't matter so much what time of day I'm available just as long as it's regular. But IrC would be more fun, especially as I've not tried it before.

PS. I'd prefer 3.x as I've never played 4E and don't have/know any of the rules!

I was also thinking the same thing this morning. I could play either of those systems. Unfortunately, I can't be sure I can dedicate the time to run such a game and I have a pretty small amount of time that I could fit an IRC game into. However, if something arises that works for others and would work for me, I would love to join.

I would try out other systems, too.

I'll second that, I'm willing to try any system - just as long as I don't have to fork out any money for access to the rules. I'm stoney broke at the moment.

I know it does not help the D&D folks (and I apologize), but the Steel Isle game on Thursday nights has an open door to new players.
Just in case anyone thought it was closed or anything.

The rules are free for Guildschool (the Steel Isle Game) as well.

Thanks for that, Vreeg :)
I was kind of aware that it was open, but not fully. I guess the reason I haven't put myself forward for joining so far is that, just as I feel there's too much to Celtricia for me to feel able to review it effectively, I possibly feel somewhat intimidated by it as a potential player too :P

Getting into Celtricia was not so bad; honestly, the setting itself is nowhere near as intimidating as all the goddamned Guildschool math, and there are plenty of folks (all frequently on IRC) who are glad to help you out with that.

I wouldn't recommend trying character-building or character-advancement without a spreadsheet, though.
I move quick: I'm gonna try my trick one last time--

Hah, yeah, I guess when I said Celtricia I meant both the setting and rule system, sorry for the lack of clarity!

On the other hand, having another game group might work better. That group is already pretty large and lively, isn't it? You don't want to get too huge, as it just gets to be too much of a strain on the GM, trying to balance all the characters, and make sure everyone has a chance to do something. It also bogs down the pace of play, which is already reduced a bit because you're playing on IRC. If there was someone else looking to run a game, it would give someone else a chance, too.

Absolutely.

I would be very happy for others wanting to run games, My friend.
I have 5 prett regular PCs in that group, and normally we get 4 on any night.  Weave looks to be joining us, as well.
Our pace is surprsingly good, after 53 sessions.

This was just lettig people know that SIG is still open; since I had been told by a few that they thought it closed.
