That's a pretty good idea Ish.  I'll start out by saying a review of Deities and Demigods is in order.  Of course, I'm not one for crunch, despite owning the book.  If someone wants to review the crunch-heavy chapters, I'd be glad to give my opinions on the fluff.  Limetom in particular might be especially good at this, due to his apparent familiarity with the Epic-level rules.

Raelifin

Yikes. That book is like a plague on rules and divinity.  :ill:

I'd much rather see something like: "How to deal with Divine Combat".
A short essay on "why giving gods stat blocks is stupid" would be more worthwhile than that entire book. >_<

Actually, I found Deities and Demigods to be a useful resource, especially the fluffy sections.  Methods of creating pantheons for classes, races, alignment were convenient.  I found the bits on ascension, divinity itself, and cosmologies to be particularly useful.  Even if the majority of the book will never be used, there are some diamonds in the rough.

I don't use deitific stats ever, but I did like (as Crit mentioned) much of the fluff of the book, as well as certain tips it offered.

For finite types, like human beings, getting the mind around the concept of infinity is tough going.  Apparently, the same is true for cows.

Raelifin

Hmm... good point. I'd try and come up with a counter debate, but I can't find my book! O.O

I'm too lazy to find it, so I guess you win this round. :P

ah shoot...

Will definately try and get the rant in in a timely manner, hopefully monday...

Why does the Guide have to have a theme?
That seems a bit limiting to me.  Back in the day when Dragon was worth buying, a themed issue was unheard of.  I would have contributed to this, the third issue, but I find the theme, and the need for them, silly.
Diversity and variety.  Those are the keys.

Raelifin

Theme is not a constraint, it's a source of inspiration.

Having a magazine with a theme gives it a selling point and a suggested topic for authors. There is NOTHING in place that says you can't write an off topic piece. In fact, I'm fairly sure ElDo has specified that he wants articles of any shape or topic. I personally wrote an essay on elves. I see no reason you can't do likewise.

It's also funny to see you so anti-theme again. ^_^ Viva la Theme Wars!

Yeah, plus, the theme shouldn't be limiting, simply because it's not a requirement.  It's just what the majority of the articles will probably be about, but they don't all have to be about divinity.  I'm thinking we need to start inserting new hombrew races, classes, spells, etc in each issue.

For a moment there it looked like we had a spillover from another thread...

Stay the course!  Go themeless into that good night.

@ ElDo: I imagine the only article you got is mine? Go me! :D (Or should that be "Go Ishy!"? Meh.)

@ Deities and Demigods: Chapter one has been a very useful resource to me, even though I don't agree with their methods (constructing a pantheon by making sure every class has something to choose from? Ugh).

"Then shall the last battle be gathered on the fields of Valinor. In that day Tulkas shall strive with Melko, and on his right shall stand Fionwe and on his left Turin Turambar, son of Hurin, Conqueror of Fate; and it shall be the black sword of Turin that deals unto Melko his death and final end; and so shall the Children of Hurin and all men be avenged." - J.R.R. We've got so many qualified people here who seem to be able to throw out content at a whim, but no one was able to get a few good articles to Eldo over the course of a month?  I guess we can just hold off a bit on the next issue...

I wanna do something, for some issue, just don't know what, and don't know when.  What're Angel's strong points when it comes to setting design, so he knows what to write about?

Elven Doritos

Raelifin has promised me content by Tuesday, so we may not have to delay the issue much (if at all).

Anyone else who wants to contribute *any* content related to worldbuilding is highly encouraged to do so.
