Privies throughout the Severim Empire and the lands to its north are all constructed in much the same way; simple two-chamber compost toilets. Whether they belong to private residences or small communities varies, but they are always free-standing structures at least 20 metres from the nearest living-quarters, and consist of one or more cubicles, each with their own individual pair of excrement chambers. Thus, even when the facilities are communal, the user's experience is mostly a private one.

D20 Privy Encounter Table

1 Dexterity/Agility check or drop randomly-determined personal effect or amount of currency down the privy
2 Sneak attack by enemy faction. Listen/Notice check to hear them moving past the privy. Otherwise, will be ambushed by one or more enemies immediately on exiting, while the rest (if applicable) of their war party makes their final approach on the settlement/building the privy belongs to
3 Small but potentially violent animal, such as a rat, has chosen to shelter in the privy and does not welcome your disturbance. Search/Notice check or be attacked when at your most vulnerable
4 As above, but the animal is either more deadly, such as a snake with a poisonous bite, or larger and stronger, such as a wild boar. In the latter case no check is required to notice the animal, it simply attacks as soon as the privy door is opened

12 A previous user of the privy has left behind 2d6 monetary units of local currency. Search/Notice check to find them
13 As above, but they have instead left an item which may have monetary value and/or relevance to the plot
14-17 Nothing of note
18 As you sit in contemplation you have a sudden brainwave. Gain 1d4 ranks/1 die type in a randomly determined skill
19 As above but instead of improving a skill you may ask the GM any one question which they must answer truthfully. However, while unable to lie, the GM may choose to bend or be sparing with the truth
20 As above but instead of a brainwave you have a dark and terrible vision. Will save/Spirit check or become fatigued. Intelligence/Smarts check to learn a randomly determined Ritual from the Codex of Eldritch Incantations. Even if this check is failed, the GM should still describe the Ritual to you, as it is a key part of your vision

[ooc]Please suggest encounters for the blank spaces on the table. My players do not often send their characters to the privy in game, so I am happy for there to be outlandish and/or slightly unbalanced results as it will be pretty rare that I actually end up rolling on this table.[/ooc]
all hail the reapers of hope

Once when we were out camping our GM winged an adventure that began with the privy floor collapsing beneath me to reveal a vast and fetid cavern. It was a quiteunexpected manner for a character to be introduced to the Underdark, and very memorable.

So I don't have any examples, but I wholeheartedly support all privy-related shenanigans. Especially "you have a dark and terrible vision". What, if not that, are privies for?

Meeting place for privy councillors?

you know it's possible to vaguely define my outline

I always wondered where the name came from.

Kindling, I don't know if this would be that distinct from the "sneak attack by enemy faction", but how about privies as a setup for robbery or extortion by the privy owner? Or approached by a distressed quest-giver or opportunistic courtier (or irritating bard) taking advantage of a captive audience? What if the privy is a SHAPESHIFTING MONSTER?!?
