Farm Forge and Steam Recommendation

I'd like to recommend "Farm, Forge and Steam:  A Nuts-And-Bolts Guide to Civilizations".

It can be purchased here:  http://rpg.drivethrustuff.com/product/19294/Farm,-Forge-and-Steam?it=1

It can be found in other places, too, but that's the first Google result.

In any case, FF&S takes an introductory look at civilizations over 90 pages and presents a no-nonsense approach to introducing the logistics of support structure.  As the titles suggest, it kind of focuses on the Farm, Forge and Steam bits of it, probably because the Forge makes the loot adventurers want, Farms feed the Forges and Steam is ... neat?  It also talks about a few key inventions like gunpowder and money, printing and transportation.  It also has a small section on MagiTek.  I give it a +1 for focusing on disease:  Where it comes from, what prompts epidemics and how society deals with it.  This section is what I walked away with.

This document is nothing new.  It also has a number of grammar and capitalization issues throughout.  The entire body that I am familiar with here are highly educated and or intelligent, so probably nothing in here that comes as a shock to anyone.  However, it is worth reading because to not have read it is to not have read it.  Farm Forge and Steam would make a passable introductory to new world-builders.  Some things go without saying, but sometimes you have to be reminded they still play into the logistics of a setting.  Then again, I don't believe any of the high level designers here sweat such small stuff.

Give it a read; it's a mere $10 from the original link.  It can also be found elsewhere, probably at other price points.

In the future, I will post a few other recommendations for documents I've been reading as I feel like it.  Right now I'm going to return to my tea, because I am a contumelious Che.  Also, Tea rhymes with Che.  Actually it doesn't, but people think it does - if enough people believe something, does it make that something true?

That the same rules designed to reduce the role of the GM and to empower the player also destroyed the autonomy to create a consistent setting. And more importantly, these rules reduce the Roleplaying component of what is supposed to be a \'Fantasy Roleplaying game\' to something else\"-Vreeg
