Looking for free image resources.

That's it. Anybody have any good online leads for decent-quality art that's legal to use on a small website or wiki? Not any use that's going to turn a profit, obviously.

I'm mainly looking for:
- faces (suitable for character portraits)
- things that could be made into stylized icons to represent game mechanics (a heart for HP, a little chess piece for Tactics, etc.)
- weird and/or evocative landscapes (scenery suggestive of ethereal/otherworldly locations, etc.)

but really I will take any good image resources because honestly who knows what will strike an inspirational nerve later?

For the most part I am neutral on the issue of illustrations vs. photos.

Wikimedia Commons does have images that are public domain or otherwise free to use - see the licence information for each file. The obvious downside is having to search for those pictures.
