Anyone do podcasts? I've got a 45-60 minute commute to work so I knock out quite a few during the week. Currently devouring TANIS http://www.tanispodcast.com/ . Weird augmented reality House of Leaves kinda thing.

I listen to a ton of podcasts. TANIS is on my list (I thought Black tapes was OK). This might be a good thread to make, but my short list of recommendations would include Serial, Limetown, Knifepoint Horror, Pseudopod, Welcome to Nightvale, My Brother My Brother and Me, The Adventure Zone, Reply All, Radiolab, Elucidations, and my wife's podcast, The S.S. Librarianship (which I have occasionally been on).

Another new and relatively good fictional podcast is Alice isn't Dead. It's done by folks from Nightvale Presents, but it isn't a comedy. It's not as good as Limetown (Limetown is amazing), but it's still pretty enjoyable.

So yeah, going off of what Rose-of-Vellum said; Just got through all six episodes of Limetown, and it is awesome. Just two questions

Were two of the episodes compressed into one or something? It said in the beginning that Limetown was going to be a 7 part series, but season 1 ends on ep. 6.

Just started listening to Alice is Dead, and I'm working on TANIS.

I haven't seen anyone bring this one up yet, so I'll throw out a recommendation. I really enjoy the Hardcore History podcast by Dan Carlin. Some of it you have to pay for but some of it is free. I recommend his Blueprint for Armageddon series (free) about WW1, and he also did one about the Spanish-American War that's really interesting as well.

Sawbones is an excellent historical medicine show, and makes you realize how bizarre the thinking of people in previous eras was.

Hello Internet is the best "two dudes talking" type podcast I've found, and they cover a crazy arrays of topics, from flag design to free will to automated cars. Here's a brief sample.

I already recommended it, but I really do love The Adventure Zone, which is a comedy D&D podcast by three brothers and their dad. I really do not enjoy listening or watching other people game most of the time; something about it always seems incredibly awkward and cringe-inducing. But somehow The Adventure Zone really pulls it off. Sample of what to expect. The first episode is a little rough but it quickly improves and turns into a kind of weird, Pythonesque science fantasy game emphasizing problem solving and puzzles.

I'm (probably not to anyone's surprise) more technically-oriented with mine, and I only really listen to a few. I absolutely love The Engineering Commons, and I'll either listen to it, Embedded.FM, or The Amp Hour when I'm running or working. I've also listened to the Taggart and Torrens podcast, which features Jonathan Torrens (J-Roc from Trailer Park Boys). They talk about a lot of Canadian issues and have various random games they play during the course of their podcasts.

I'll make a quick recommendation:

The Memory Palace is a Podling series that are around 5-10 minutes long, but are about interesting little history tidbits (Ben Franklins Death Ray, horrendous obituary reports, Paddle Wheeled Boats) etc, etc, etc.

A new one I just discovered was Arkham Sessions. It's a Batman podcast focusing on The Animated Series and doing Psychoanalysis on the characters in the show. BTAS is my favorite version of Batman, so this is really cool for me.

I don't know how into the video gamez you folks are, but the Co-Optional Podcast has some pretty insightful and interesting gaming discussions that I generally enjoy. They even touch on D&D and other tabletop games sometimes (albeit rarely).

EDIT: I didn't mean to link to a random spot mid video about the Warcraft Movie. I haven't even seen that episode. Just wanted to give an idea of what they discuss.

I didn't know MBMBaM had a D&D podcast - I will need to listen to this.

The best gaming-related podcast is Narrative Control. Updates are extremely infrequent and unpredictable nowadays, but the archive is a great resource. I have found it very influential. When I'm between episodes of Narrative Control, I sometimes listen to Fear The Boot just to tide me over.

If you don't already know about Hardcore History, it's a really enjoyable history show and has given me a lot of ideas for the gaming inspiration file.

If you don't already know about Welcome to Night Vale, you're not my friend anymore.

I have a bunch of other podcasts I subscribe to (more than I can actually stay current on), and have just listed the ones that impact the gaming part of my brain. I'm happy to talk about the others if there seems to be interest.

That's a pretty good choice, but for me, it's Death Throes of the Republic by a miiiiillllle

I (regretfully) ripped right through all of Dan Carlin's Hardcore History series, all the free ones anyways. He also has a political commentary program called Common Sense if anyone is into that sort of thing. Nightmare Magazine has been my sole cup of tea this past week.

A new one I just discovered which is pretty interesting is Lore, which is about, well, lore. The first one seems to be about vampirism in old America, and so far it's been pretty good.

Lore is pretty good, although I personally found it a little disappointing in ways that might be particular to me. It's well put-together, but the research component is relatively superficial and consists mostly of just reading and describing various folktales and myths. When I was starting it I was hoping for a bit more of an academic deep dive with a more rigorous theoretical framework, which admittedly would probably be far less appealing to many listeners than the podcast as it exists. It's still worth a listen, though!

So far my favorite one is The Devil in the Diner. I have had at least two of those kinds of experiences, and this one is very relatable to me. I also listened to the one about shadow people which was interesting.
