Not sure if this has come up before or not, but seeing as music is such a massive part of my life, I thought it'd be fun if we all post what kind of stuff we mainly listen to. This is as difficult for me as I expect it will be for you lot, because I like SO MUCH music, but I think we should try to name a few major genres and favourite artists, maybe most recent purchases, and also stuff like what (if any) music we ourselves make.

Okay so... in no particular order...

Big into my punk. If it has some connection to punk, the chances are I'll like it at least a little.

I like experimental music, for example the experimental "hardcore" scene, stuff like the Dillinger Escape Plan and The Locust, although also other wierd stuff like Captain Beefheart and Primus and so on.. Some modern classical and stuff (Philip Glass is teh roxXx)

As for less progressive/experimental hardcore/metalcore stuff... I like a couple of bands like Converge and Buried Inside, but mostly its all a bit samey.

Extreme metal (death metal, black metal, grindcore, etc.) is fun, but I have to be in the right mood. Power metal can also be a laugh as long as its tongue-in-cheek (cheesecore to the max!)

Some jazz is good, but generally the wierder/more rock influenced side of it. A lot of jazz really does nothing for me.

As far as electronic music goes, experimental stuff like IDM, glitch, breakcore and so on is good. As for more conventional dancy stuff, psytrance is great to just get into a groove with, and has the occasional floaty bit which is good for a quick rest :P

Talking of dancing I'm also a huge fan of reggae (mostly roots and/or dub, but its all good) and ska/two-tone (Madness ftw!!!)

Latest musical purchase was the Richard D James album by Aphex Twin.

Few favourite bands...

The Dillinger Escape Plan: Hard choice between them and The Locust, but I dunno... Dillinger have always appealed to me slightly more, although I do love The Locust.

At the Drive-In: Great band, incredible energy... Relationship of Command is probably my favourite album ever :P

7 Seconds of Love: Found Rathergood.com ages ago... and then he formed a band! A ska band, no less! A GREAT ska band, no less! I went to see them at the Battersea gig in London in the summer... they were FANTASTISCHE

Melt-Banana: Japanese noise-punk... Great fun! Lol. And some of the sounds he gets out of his guitar are just insane. Well, almost everything about their music is insane, but yeah...

As for the music I make... well my college band is doing cheesy pop-punk which is just for laughs and to help us pass some of the stuff on my course (I'm doing a popular music diploma thingy or something like that...)

My other, primary band is more experimental, and harsher... You can hear an unfinished demo of one of our more technical songs on our MySpace at www.myspace.com/ziekenisgod
Still need to add the cello and vocal parts to the recording.

So, that's my musicality... what's yours? What do you listen to? What do you dance to? What do you have on as you drift off to sleep? What do you rock out to? What do you play?

I, too, like punk quite a bit. Not a whole lot now (I'm getting into it), but I dig the Offspring, the Ramones, the Clash, and a bunch of other random stuff.

I live to rock. I love metal; including the many different conceptions of metal. I like the classic metal produced by bands like Metallica and Megadeth, the screaming hair metal of Iron Maiden and Limozeen, the pounding newer metal by Fear Factory. I like the uber-goth dark metals like Dimmu Borgir, Cradle of Filth, and Danzig. I also like some oddball stuff like Corrosion of Conformity, Tool, and Rage against the machine. If it's got several electric guitars, and they're screaming at you, and they've made at least one song about the government sucking, I'll probobly dig it.

Me and my siblings celebrate the hell out of the fact that we're all third generation Irish Americans, so I listen to alot of the music from the Land of Ire. I love the Pogues, the Chieftans, the Dropkick Murphys, and Flogging Molly is okay, too. (This stuff sounds ten times better when your PISSED)

I also really like electronic, dance, and "experimental" music, like OhGr, Skinny Puppy, NIN, Wumpscut, Terrorfakt, Combichrist, Suicide Commando, Switchblade Symphony, and the Cruxshadows.

But more than anything, I like my two-headed beast; Rammstein and KMFDM. Rammstein is a personal favorite, a band I am forever loyal to, and KMFDM is my god. They've got so many songs, they hate oppression and authority so much, and they're always rocking or thrumming out some of those ultra heavy beats I love.

...and the muthafukin D! FUCK YEA!

+10 points to whoever knew that I didn't mean "angry" when I said PISSED.

I can and will listen to pretty much anything except for black metal/death metal/metalcore/insert other similar, God-hating recent metal subgenre here (STEREOTYPING FTW), soulless gangster rap, and some punk. I'll listen to pretty much anything otherwise. I like some hair metal, some metal like Metallica, Megadeth, Ozzy, etc. Hell, give me a Savage Garden CD or a collection of techno rave tunes and I'll be able to stomach them. My favorite music in particular consists of:

The Doors
Dream Theater (album only, Petrucci needs to stop shredding live)
Billy Idol
CCR
Shinedown
Queen
Nickelback

Plus a bunch of select country. I can never get enough of the soft rock/pop songs featuring piano or acoustic guitar, and I'm a huge fan of certain really epic opera and opera-like vocalists (Josh Groban in my opinion kicks ass, and I really enjoy The Point of No Return done by Gerard Butler and Emmy Rossum from Phantom of the Opera).

Oh, and trance. Anything nature or in general capable of putting you to sleep is great.

I'll take that, thank you!

That's an easy one for an Australian, mate - heck, we've got a brand of beer specifically called Piss Beer (certain obscenities prevent nation-wide distribution, of course).  I think we like "shitfaced" a little more than we like pissed, though, but to each his inebriated own.

Kind of off the subject, but my aunt was the woman singing "Can You Feel The Love Tonight" alongside Elton John in The Lion King.  Didn't do much for her career, though.

"Oh, what have I done of note?  Oh, nothing.  I only sang in the third highest grossing animated feature of all time!  With Elton John!!"

Oh yeah, and the first 25 seconds of Beef Face instrumental (as well as seconds 90-100) were totally schweet.  I have... nothing to say about the rest of that piece.  Nothing at all... :-|

Captain Obvious

I listen to and love far too many different bands and types of music to list, but i'll try to list some of my favourties. Just to give you an ide of how much, my computer has a good 120 or so gigs of music on it and i have a bunch more in vynil format (actually a lot more).

I listen to stuff from pretty much every genre and wil try pretty much anything suggested to me.
some all-time favourites: Ani Difranco, Tom Waits, Laurie Anderson, Sigur Ros, Zap Mama, Randy Newman, Skattelites and Gorrilaz.

Now, by genre. (these are all partial lists)
Hip-Hop: Outkast, Gnarls Barkley, Danger Doom (in fact anything involving Danger Mouse. that man is amazing), K-os, De La Soul, Blackalicious, A Tribe Called Quest.

Classic Rock: Dire Straits, The Band, Pink Floyd, Led Zepplin.

Rock: (too many to count) Arcade Fire, Flaming Lips, Spiral Beach, Modest Mouse, Broken Social Scene, Metric, Wolf Parade, Rilo Kiley...

Post-rock/experimental: Explosions in the sky, Silver mount Zion, Mogwai, Drums and Tuba, Bell Orchestre, Do Make Say Think, Air.

World: Angelique Kidjo, Mouth Music, Battlefield Band, Yousou N'dour.

Dancing music is ska, hyperactive indie rock, funk, some electronica or hip-hop, and some heavier rock (alsmost metal, but not quite) for moshing.

As for myself, i play Guitar, saxophone, drums and trompbone, and have played (at least a bit) piano, bass (electric and stand-up), violin, trumpet, accordion, harmonica and musical saw. I also song and have written a few songs (but they really suck so no one but me has ever seen then).
