Imagine a world. A world of beauty, of magic and technology.
Imagine a system. A system of wonderful planets, of powerful metal and wondrous alloys.
Imagine a man. A man with a dream, with a head full of a system which would change the world...

Duvon dux-Haliz designed it, and the emperor saw it. The Twenty-Four Alien Species were dominated and the sun brought under control. The planets were built into a circle, each held in a cradle of magical design, holding each planet in its own orbit. The sun, too, was held, and fuelled and harnessed, held in the centre of the sphere of planets, the heart of a complex gyroscope and axel which kept all of the planets slowly spinning around the sun. The perfect system had been designed, an empire suitable for the gods themselves. Population rates spiralled, and the Twenty-Five Species lived almost in harmony on the Empire of the Sun, hovering in space. Teleportation and lightning-fast trains travelled the distance between planets, along spars connecting the cradles. A single planet was named the Imperial City.

None know what happened next. It is not even known if all of what has been recorded here is true. But it is said by some that the gods themselves were envious of the empire and broke it.

The civilisations began to break. Decadence had been rife, and now so was war. The empire was broken, cities cast down as waves of energy weapons and ancient nuclear artillery shattered the world around. The great magicians fought one another for dominance, blasting the world around. At the end, nothing was left but rubble. Huge holes scarred the surfaces of planets knocked out of orbit, the great magicians were little more than shattered, broken corpses. The technology of the age was nearly all buried or lost beneath the ruins of once-great buildings - the darkness reined. Only a few thinking machines remained, and the weapons were nearly lost. The survivors made promises to one another.

Never again would they make the mistake of thinking they were greater than gods...
