yeah, it's fairly obvious (to me at least).  I commend your small-graphic skillz.  I could never manage to create anything that looked half-way decent in an image editor except maps - and even those only look half-way decent.

A badge is a way that worldbuilders have of (a) recognizing members who have been a great help to their worldbuilding effort and (b) advertising.

@ Captain Obvious: I agree with KM. It's quite obviously a person wearing a crown.

"Then shall the last battle be gathered on the fields of Valinor. In that day Tulkas shall strive with Melko, and on his right shall stand Fionwe and on his left Turin Turambar, son of Hurin, Conqueror of Fate; and it shall be the black sword of Turin that deals unto Melko his death and final end; and so shall the Children of Hurin and all men be avenged." - J.R.R. Are you sure? It looks sort of like a starfish being squeezed out of a toothpaste tube...
I kid, I kid! Like the others have said, it's really quite clear.
I like this idea; when I finish my thesis I'll have more time to do stuff here, and badges might help keep us organized.  I'm going for a four-spoked wheel for the World of Ralum... I started with the first one, but decided that the border made the wheel too small.  What do you think?

I think the last one is probably the best.

My vote goes toward the second one. I feel that the last one looks too much like the X-men symbol (yes, that's my reason) and that the second one has a horizontal bar that is similar to the graphical theme we've got going.

When you guys make these badges, do you actually start with a 22x22 space, or do you start larger and just shrink down to size?

For finite types, like human beings, getting the mind around the concept of infinity is tough going.  Apparently, the same is true for cows.

Scale. 95% of the time I scale it down from a 220x220 or 440x440.

Okay, here are 2 ideas I've worked with for shadowfell.  Basically.... it's some shadows.  Go figure.  Tell me what you like, don't like, whatever.

I think the idea of shadows is good, though it obviously means it might be hard to see what's in the picture.  Perhaps a lighter background to add more contrast to the shadows?

What are the white lines in the first picture?

I start with 22x22, I can work with small spaces more easily.  So I've got one vote for horizontal and one vote for diagonal; anybody else have an opinion? :)

Edit: If fitting in with the theme is good, then I can easily modify the diagonal one if that's neccessary:

I like #1, though I might have gone with something more abstract and less literal.
