Thoughts on this issue?

Apologies on the lateness. Personal tragedy and the holidays combined to screw with my schedule, and the other staffers worked diligently to get the Guide together. Expect an announcement about issue 4, deadlines, and the direction of the Guide over the weekend.
Oh, how we danced and we swallowed the night
For it was all ripe for dreaming
Oh, how we danced away all of the lights
We've always been out of our minds

Overall I'd say it's the coolest Guide yet. I certainly enjoyed everything I didn't write. ;)

Here's hoping for a whole slew of great Guides!

For finite types, like human beings, getting the mind around the concept of infinity is tough going.  Apparently, the same is true for cows.

the template article was great fun, too. i feel it described the true nature of templates better then any WotC book has.

oh, and good job on the editorial, ElDo!

I regret my continued inability to contribute.

Feel free to lift some of my drawings for the next issue.

CYMRO

Editorial: Not so good.  Pointless, actually.
Pantheon article:  Nicely written.
Gorukol: Interesting.
Border Patrol:  Why is this in multiple parts?  Not enough in part one to justify a part two.
Templates: Okay.  Didn't really turn me on or off.
Interview:  Bland, read like a high school newspaper feature.
Art: Good, but who is this artist?  Is he a CBGer? With so many artists who are CBG members, why is none of that art featured?

When you take into account covers and the OGL, eighteen pages is pretty skimpy for the amount of time devoted to putting this together.

Wow Cymro, don't you think that's a bit harsh? Quite a few people spent a lot of time putting together this product and you basically dismissed it outright. This isn't a professional publication, this is something put together by real people who have jobs and families. I can understand criticism, I'm probably best known for my "be honest and critical" approach, but you've always got to consider the benefit of criticism. Non-constructive criticism, like calling an interview "Bland" doesn't really help, neither does saying that the guide was "pretty skimpy." I can understand if you're disappointed, but moaning about it in front of the staff isn't going to create anything positive.

If you thought the Guide was too short, contribute! If you want more in-guild art, contribute! We're working with what we have, and (to my knowledge) NO pieces of art were contributed to the guide this issue. That's okay, I asked professional artists for donations and it worked out, but don't criticize the staff for things not under their control.

Lastly, if you don't enjoy the content and don't hope to contribute, you don't have to read it. Pick up Dragon or something. :) I, for one, am happy that the Guide exists... period. How much content we have will always be second to having another issue. So howabout it? Can you offer some advice or suggestions instead of complaints?

Things to do:
Reviews.
Serialized short-stories.
Comic.

I can't write for shit, so the first two are out for me. I might do a continuing comic (one to five pages per issue) if someone else will handle wriing and/or color.

Send me a PM sometime over the next few ideas if you'd like-- I'd be interested in writing.

Raelifin, I've long-since realized here that you can't please everyone.  It seems that no matter what I do around here, someone gets annoyed, pissed, ticked, bored, or just doesn't give a shit.  It's the way of the world, and that way seems to increase exponentially 'round these parts.  I appreciate your defense, and I do feel that your comments were much more constructive than those that came before it, but don't let it get to you too much.

I can do color. Here's a sample of a fan-color I did for Dominic Deegan:

Nice Rael, that kind of art would work well with the Guide, I believe.

I don't think I'm "letting it get to me" as much as I'm just standing up for something I did. That's important in my eyes, just like Xathan stood up for poor Seraph when I tore into elves. I saw my error and retracted my statement. If he had simply ignored my post as a disgruntled stranger, than I would be lacking the lesson I learned then. Sure, you can't please everyone, but I like to think that confrontation, like criticism, is a conveyor of learning and needs to be taken up if only for the sake of he who is out of place.
