Since the method of becoming a Lord is a secret that is closely guarded that begs the question-Do Lords make other Lords or do mortals spontaneously become Lords?

What is that transition like from Mortal to Lord? That would be a great role playing experience.

Quote from: RavenspathAgreed that this is a very cool idea. It has some of the 'meta' things I like about Nobilis or Whispering Vault, but wrapped up differently with a whole new twist.
It's funny you mentioned Nobilis, because the first time I read this I thought "This is like playing as the Imperators, and the Anointed are the Nobilis!"  Which would be freakin' awesome.

Quote from: Luminous CrayonPart of my idea is to make this game something of a small-scale ARG, so I'm trying to avoid making players keep track of in-character and out-of-character knowledge separately.
Makes perfect sense.  I had an idea for an ARG (it inspired Dystopia, actually).  Not much became of it, but I think I might dig it up and have another crank at it.

Huzzah! A brand new webpage, courtesy of the CBG's Hosting section and my deep and heartfelt procrastination. Most (but not all!) of the content there is reposted from this thread, but I'm pretty pleased with how it's turned out so far, after only a day's work.

Great work on the site, Luminous, though it could be a little easier on the eyes...

That's not the final layout; there are still a few things that need to be tweaked, especially concerning color schemes (yes) and the markup of important terms in the text. I like the vivid indigos, but then again, I have a pretty bright monitor, and everything seems a little less pale on other screens.

I'm a little miffed that nobody else seems to like my color schemes, though. Harrumph. I had some pretty good inspiration (in chapter 17.) Ah well; back to the drawing board.

I'm most pleased with the menu, and I was surprised at how easy it was to make. I'm a little tempted to go back and recreate the navigation and layout of the Jade Stage site with a little more fluidity in mind, now that I understand a little bit more about object placement.

Crayon, in th words of a favorite squirrel of mine, If it were possible to become you by hanging you your ears and eating your face off, I would do it. (Don't look at me like that, it's a QUOTE dangit!)

This is downright AWESOME. It reminds me of the Ancients from Stargate, and reminding me of stargate is ALWAYS good.

If you ever start up a game of this, let me know post haste.

Definately sounds like something worth playing.  Looks to me like you've got a good four or five people total.  I doesn't look like all the details are worked out as far as Lord powers and special abilities, but I'm definately willing to help move the process along.  I have a couple questions about humans who are nodes.  A good example is paper-clip-node-guy.  If I, being a Lord of organization, nudge him enough and he becomes obsessive enough that it consumes his whole life, and perhaps even the lives of others does he provide me with more mettle?  I would think he'd be able to produce me with more mettle, but, at the same time, it would take more points of secrecy to keep him off another Lord's radar.  Also, you said that items could be used as unflavored nodes (like the Hope Diamond).  Could I cause an object to become an unflavored node?  Say I'm at war with another God, and my people and his people are fighting over a "property line" that lies across a river past some woods.  Now, I can easily defend the woods, but if I cause a series of feints to put the focus on the woods, could I, eventually, turn that into a node?  Sorry if that's a bit confusing.
Thrice I've searched the forest of sanity, but have yet to find a single tree.

Belkar: We have a goal?
Roy: Sure, why do you think we're here?
Belkar: Well, I just figured we'd wander around, kill some sentient creatures because they had green skin and fangs and we don't, and then take their stuff.

This looks like a really awesome idea to tack on top of another campaign. A meta-game on top of the primary battle. For some reason this reminds me of Berserk, with the God Hand actually running everything behind the scenes with the Laws of Casuality. It also reminds me of Illuminatus! with the ascended beings who've become sentient energy. I might have to steal this concept for some of my games.

A couple of questions

-What can a node actually do? Are they macGuffins? Or do they provide tangible benefits to the Lords?

-How do you classify the power level of a Lord? By Stature?

- Do the Lords need a node to survive?
