What are your favorites and least favorites?

(and before anyone says it, of course CRPGs have a different style entirely than actual table-top RPGs.  But within the genre, what did you like?  What didn't you like?)

My favorites would be the entire Infinity Engine series, though my favorite of all is doubtlessly Planescape: Torment.

planescape torment was head and shoulders above every other d&d crpg.
everything else was just hack'n'slash ;)

nwn had the most you could do, with the content creator & dm mode, but was simultaneously the most frustrating, because you wanted it to do more, or quicker, or easier, whatever.

ToEE was the best 3e 'battle simulator'. not good for much else. buggy, too. great for testing out mechanical concepts, though.

The Baldur's Gate (BG, Tales of the Sword Coast, BGII and Throne of Bhaal) saga should probably be mentioned specifically as well, simply for the length and number of interesting developments/subplots (at least in the second half).
My Setting:

Elven Doritos

Although a bit limited in gamplay, I had a good time with Demonstone. It had good visuals, a decent storyline, and some fun bosses.

As far as just straight-up "Kill the badguys, graphics are good, music pretty much RAWKS" category goes, I have to go with Icewind Dale.  Jeremy Soule did the score for the game, and even though there aren't that many actual role-playing options, I think it's a great game.

For finite types, like human beings, getting the mind around the concept of infinity is tough going.  Apparently, the same is true for cows.

All of the Infinity Engine games (BG series, IWD, IWD2, P:T) had excellent scores and voice acting.  (I loved the guy who did the Transcendent One in P:T / Kresselack in IWD)

bg & icewindale were weird.
story in icewindale was nonexistant. nonexistant. The art was great, though.

bg-line had a story (good or bad to taste, mostly good i say--but nothing to torment ;)). the art was horrific. like, 2-am fantasy movie on the sci-fi-channel style. (nwn was the same way. like... disney-art, but worse... uninspired, or something.)

i always wanted to play bg with the art drawn by icewindale guys. ;)

I also loved all the Infinity games I played. My favourite is the BG series (getting better as it progressed, ToB was awesome), though, I hasten to add, I never got a chance to play Planescape.

"Then shall the last battle be gathered on the fields of Valinor. In that day Tulkas shall strive with Melko, and on his right shall stand Fionwe and on his left Turin Turambar, son of Hurin, Conqueror of Fate; and it shall be the black sword of Turin that deals unto Melko his death and final end; and so shall the Children of Hurin and all men be avenged." - J.R.R. I'm not sure what the general D&Der opinion of NWN is, but I definitely had some good times playing it online.  Some servers are really good at capturing the feel of a real world, and most are small enough that you can get to know the community of the server you play on quite well.

I share the opinion mentioned earlier regarding NWN - objectively, it was tremendous, but it was terribly frustrating because I (at least) kept wanting it to do even more.

However, it is fun in it's own way.  The graphics impressed me, at least.

I wished there was more support for parties online, though.  Almost all the servers I ever found were heavily solo-focused.

Ehh, I had a good time playing NWN for awhile, but when it got to making your own campaigns, the system was way too complicated.  You had to have some serious coding konwledge to be able to manipulate the simplest scripts, and the haks system sucked.

Both those criticisms are true, but it was still a nice game when someone did those things for you. :)

Icewind Dale was good.
NWN, so-so.

I'm willing to agree with that :)
