I'm a bit late, but I just wanted to throw in and say that the idea of a CBBBEGG sounds awesome.  That would be very entertaining for me.

Turin, I just sent you a PM (actually 2, one didn't go through properly).

I like the idea of a BBEG issue for a future Guide.  For selfish reasons (related to an upcoming article in the series I'm writing), I would prefer if we could hold off on that for a couple more issues, but it's looking like it's the most popular choice at the moment.

Also, I must second (again!) the thought of a Seafaring issue.  Pirates, underwater adventures, better water combat rules (3D combat rules are absolutely calling for Xeviat to take a gander at them), "Ships of the Races (an article about how different races treat construction of ships and seafaring vehicular objects)," etc, etc, etc!  Woot!

For finite types, like human beings, getting the mind around the concept of infinity is tough going.  Apparently, the same is true for cows.

Let's get this party cranked up!  So far, the definites for the next issue will be my Article 3 in the Diary, presumably another article from Stargate on Border Patrol, and hopefully something from Cartographers Guild and PlotStorming.  What else we got, folks?  Have we decided Bounty Hunters is the theme?  If so, we need to get some articles on alternative rangers, providing optimal nemeses to hunt, and how Bounty Hunters are viewed in different societies.  Plus tons more, and you guys are more creative than I, so start talking!

I have received so far:
    The Door, pt 2
    *  An article on Villains

I'm expecting:
    A map from the Cartographers (With written permission for use)
    *  An article or short story from Plotstorming.
    *  Border Patrol, pt 5
    *  CBDiary, pt 3
As far as I know BBEGs are the theme, with Bounty Hunter articles also welcome.

Ish, can you talk to the cartographers and see if one of them wants to write an article on map-making? If you want, I can do it, but you've been the established contact in that dept thus far.

Turin, are you planning on doing an interview?

Ishmayl-Retired

Rael, way ahead of you on that.  I've been in talks with Robbie (the admin) and one of the other guys at Cartographers Guild for a couple weeks now on getting (potentially) a series of articles on beginning map making using different techniques.  Rael, how about we start back up the old "World Walkers" story idea that we had a long time ago?  The one where a character, each week, has an adventure in a different homebrew setting?  I'll send you some email ideas I have on the subject.

I also sent Turin a few names to see if he's interested in interviews, and I've even thought of a few more in the past few days, so hopefully we can get another interview.

Túrin

I'm planning on doing an interview, but it's so far been weighed out by other priorities. I hope to do some work in that area next week and then see how things develop. Speaking of which, I don't remember reading the deadline for this issue. Is there one?

@Ish: Could you give me those other names you've thought of? I'll consider the complete list and contact at least one of them next week.

"Then shall the last battle be gathered on the fields of Valinor. In that day Tulkas shall strive with Melko, and on his right shall stand Fionwe and on his left Turin Turambar, son of Hurin, Conqueror of Fate; and it shall be the black sword of Turin that deals unto Melko his death and final end; and so shall the Children of Hurin and all men be avenged." - J.R.R. Tolkien, The Shaping of Middle-Earth

Raelifin

Deadline always fall apart, but I'm suggesting articles get in before the 25th or if it's expected, the 30th. We have a good amount of content for this issue, so articles that come in after that I may push off to issue #8.

SA

So hang on, is this a BBEG article, or a Bounty Hunters one? (Or something else all together?)

Raelifin

BBEG is what's planned, though themes are the product of the content we get, so if people send in a bunch of bounty hunter articles (which they are welcome to do) the theme becomes Bounty Hunters. ;)

It's BBEG.

Ishmayl-Retired

Okay, who all's going to submit something for this?  A lot of people through out suggestions for theme and such, but we have very little content at the moment.  Here's some article ideas I've thought of:

"I've got better things to do than wait around for you to destroy my home..." - What do villains do when they're not just sitting around in the top of their castle/tower/fortress, awaiting annihilation?  They have to be out doing something, whether it's gathering more troops, building defenses, setting up traps, etc.  Let's go through the average day of a BBEG and find a good reason for him not to be just lounging on his throne when the PCs come a-stormin.'

A Henchman Knows Best - How often do we see in movies, or read in books, a BBEG's henchman who has much more brains than the BBEG, but must blindly follow his leader's ambitions (OotS, anyone?)?  Discuss the different kinds of roles (mindless servant, elite guard, wise advisor, puppeteer) that henchmen typically have to BBEGs, and how they can be applied to adventures and campaigns.

Carving Out a Place to Call Home - BBEGs always pick really obvious places to lair up.  Evil-looking castles atop a rocky outcrop, evil-looking towers overlooking a tiny village, evil-looking fortresses at the base of a cliff.  What if a villain for once wised up and decided to have his BBB (Big Bad Base) in a place that wouldn't be the first place to look.  How would the BBEG defend his BBB if it wasn't a very easily-defendable place?  How about going over different BBEGBBB's that can really make the PCs have to think.

No One Cares About Drow Anymore! - There are a few clichéd races that always make for a good BBEG.  The manipulative elder red dragon, the cackling human wizard, the thuggish orc warrior.  What would be some non-stereotypical races to become a wonderful BBEG, and how would they work?  (hint:  evil Dwarven clerics and evil kobold monks is a good place to start ;))

Any takers?  If not, anymore ideas out there?

Stargate525

I'm gonna have to back off Border Patrol. I haven't got it finished yet, and the next week's gonna be really hectic with me getting to college and everything.

Next issue for sure, I promise. And it'll be really, really shiny!

Stargate, we don't have a set deadline yet (I don't think)... those above are relatively superficial considering we don't really have many articles yet.  So, if you get it done in the near future, just send it in, it may still make it to this issue.

Uh... only thing I got that's BBEG related isn't game related, I'm afraid.

Otherwise, maybe I could write something about the game (system, setting, etc) that I'm putting together to sell at Gencon 08? I just pulled together some 14 pages of basic info to show around to the guys I'm working with. I'm sure I could extract something article-worthy from this?

Also, anyone else go to Gencon? Anyone else participate in the DnD Open? Would an article on Gencon be good?

QuoteI don't believe in it anyway.
What?
England.
Just a conspiracy of cartographers, then?

Raelifin

In my editorial I stated an intended direction for the guide. We're looking for articles related to world building, either aimed at education or example (with fiction being example). My gut reaction is that an article about Gencon is not what we're looking for, but if you have an anime-related article on villains that discusses archetypes, pitfalls or unique concepts or whatever, that'd be fine.
