[spoiler The Ballad of Bilbo Baggins]In the middle of the earth in the land of the Shire
lives a brave little hobbit whom we all admire.
With his long wooden pipe,
fuzzy, woolly toes,
he lives in a hobbit-hole and everybody knows him

Bilbo! Bilbo! Bilbo Baggins
He's only three feet tall
Bilbo! Bilbo! Bilbo Baggins
The bravest little hobbit of them all

Now hobbits are a peace-lovin' folks you know
They don't like to hurry and they take things slow
They don't like to travel away from home
They just want to eat and be left alone
But one day Bilbo was asked to go
on a big adventure to the caves below,
to help some dwarves get back their gold
that was stolen by a dragon in the days of old.

Bilbo! Bilbo! Bilbo Baggins
He's only three feet tall
Bilbo! Bilbo! Bilbo Baggins
The bravest little hobbit of them all

Well he fought with the goblins!
He battled a troll!!
He riddled with Gollum!!!
A magic ring he stole!!!!
He was chased by wolves!!!!!
Lost in the forest!!!!!!
Escaped in a barrel from the elf-king's halls!!!!!!!

Bilbo! Bilbo! Bilbo Baggins
The bravest little hobbit of them all

Now he's back in his hole in the land of the Shire,
that brave little hobbit whom we all admire,
just a-sittin' on a treasure of silver and gold
a-puffin' on his pipe in his hobbit-hole.

1)September. Details unclear.
2)I have half a year of university behind me. So, hovering somewhere between the first and the second year, I guess.
3)Math.
4)Logic, discrete mathemathics, philosophy, Swedish. A bit more philosophy, hopefully.

All in all, looks easy, aside from the Swedish and possibly philosophy.

[blockquote=Jharviss]It's very interesting learning what grades everyone is. It really puts a focus on just how mature several of our members are for their age. Several of our members are just entering college or aren't even out of it yet; nonetheless they act like they're graduates and have real lives. I love this guild -- it just proves that not all people my age and younger are imbeciles.[/blockquote]

I am right on line with Jhaviss, that most of the interaction within the threads is very much at an intellectual, adult level.  The few times it is not is more of a lack of perspective issue, never a lack of intelligence.  And one of the most 'adult' traits is very, very evident here, one that I wish was more ubiquitous in the so-called real world.  The grace to listen to others, and give their words the same credence as your own.
Kudos.

Quote from: Elven Doritos (for a nominal fee)1) Who starts school, and when?
2) What grade or year are you?
3) For college/university students, what's your major?
4) What classes are you taking?

1) I'm not, but I probably should be. I realize college would help me out with skills I need and desire, but I don't quite have the initiative or patience to get started.

2) See 1

3) I would be majoring in some sort of graphic design.

4) See 1 & 3.

Atlantis: Are you either a college grad, or a HS grad that isn't in college yet? By the way, I find it kind of amusing that you started a guessing game immediately after a post that commented on the maturity of the site....

Not that you're immature, mind you, just the juxtaposition of the two posts.

Túrin

1) Next Monday, August 27th.
2) I'll be in my third year of college (not sure what the proper term is, sophomore means it's your second year, right?).
3) I'm actually doing two studies. If all goes as planned, I'll get my Bachelor's degree in Econometrics this year and both my Master's Degree in Econometrics and my Bachelor's Degree in Philosophy next year. I haven't decided yet whether I'll be doing a Master's in Philosophy after that. It's interesting to note the similarities and differences between these two fields that are so widely apart (especially when you have classes as differing as Ethics and Regression Analysis on the same day).
4) Next semester will bring me
- Combinatorial Optimization (an Econometrics course)
- Econometric Methods (an Econometrics course)
- Inventory Management (an Econometrics course)
- Risk Theory (an Econometrics course)
- History of Ancient and Medieval Philosophy 1 (a Philosophy course)
- Metaphysics (a Philosophy course)
- Philosophical Writing 1 (a Philosophy course)

Not sure if the Bachelor's/Master's thing is making any sense to you guys, as you all seem to be thinking in terms of "majors", but it seems that what I'm doing is roughly equivalent to two majors.

I see I'm not the only one here doing two majors. How hard (or easy) is it to combine different fields in one study programme in the US (or wherever you live)?

"Then shall the last battle be gathered on the fields of Valinor. In that day Tulkas shall strive with Melko, and on his right shall stand Fionwe and on his left Turin Turambar, son of Hurin, Conqueror of Fate; and it shall be the black sword of Turin that deals unto Melko his death and final end; and so shall the Children of Hurin and all men be avenged." - J.R.R. Tolkien, The Shaping of Middle-Earth

Kalos Mer

It's not particularly hard most places.  I'm actually doing a quasi-double major - at my school, Greek and Latin are separate programs, I'm doing one that combines both.

Quote from: Túrin2) I'll be in my third year of college (not sure what the proper term is, sophomore means it's your second year, right?).

Just for your reference, the terminology we use in the States is:

1st year: Freshman
2nd year: Sophomore
3rd year: Junior
4th year: Senior

But since at the end of four years it looks like Turin will be walking out with two bachelors and one master's degree, it's not quite comparable. ;)

Jharviss

Double majors are easy, because they are both from similar fields; for example, both of mine are liberal arts -- political science and English.  If I wanted to major in English and Business Administration, which are not similar fields, it would be a Duel Major, and considerably more difficult (but still quite possible).
