I was going over my character's background, and I noticed that anything typed in with an apostrophe or multiple periods (...) shows up as " ïÃ,¿Ã,½ " once it's saved. Dunno if this is happening to anyone else.

thhhaat's character encoding. you may be able to fix it via your browser. (view->character encoding on firefox)
i'm not sure WHAT it's supposed to be. probably utf8 or iso-8859-1.

...if I had any idea what that means I would nod my head...

dude, *i* didnt name them :)

basically, 3eprofiler and your webbrowser are speaking slightly different encodings of english. they're mostly the same, but break down on 'funky characters'.

you can change what encoding your browser is in by going to:
(in ie, on the big menu with file and shit) view> encoding> some western encoding (western (windows), western (european), or utf8/unicode.
(in firefox, again on the main menu) view> character encoding> some western encoding.

basically, just pick encodings until u get one that displays right.

actually, a much better idea: make that character public, and give me a link. i'm having trouble reproducing the error over here.
