(OOC Setup) Shadows of the Last Alliance: Shadow's Rising

This will be the set up and planning thread for the PbP game i am going to run. This was mostly started as a replacement for the campaign of Elven Doritos' that is on hiatus, so anyone from that campaign is welcome to come join. So are anyone else for that matter. I'm pretty new at PbP (and completely new at running one), so you'll have to bear with me.

The campaign will be taking place in my Shadows of the Last Alliance CS (of which there is a partial WIP write up in the homebrew section). I will be doing my best to get a bunch more info from it typed up so you have a bit more to work with, but basically i'm okay with most published rules (as long as i know what they can do). So, if you want to use something non-core, just ask me first and i'll probably say yes if we can find a way to work it into the story.

I'm aiming for around 4 or 5 characters, but depending on who wants to join, any number could work, so don't hesitate. I am hoping to keep this campaign for a long term thing (i have some rough story worked out that could go as far as epic), provided that i like the way that the PbP system works. There will be a mix of published adventures, modified and refurbished 2nd ed. adventures, and adventures of mine.

Characters start at 1st level using a 36 point buy system. Please use the 3eProfiler for your sheets. If anyone wants help working out background and fitting their character into the setting, either pm me, or i have msn, and might have aim.

since the write up for the CS is very incomplete currently, here are some commom races:
all of the core races, orcs, goblins, hobgoblins, lizardmen, kobolds, minotaurs. (any others, just ask me first, and they likely either can be/already are in the setting).

@Senk: I'm not actually sure what asherati and raptorans are (are they from races of the wild?), but just give me a quick summary of their stats and fluff and i'll see if they'll work out.

Most books could be permitted. Just ask me first and i'll try to find a way to fit it in.
Some specific classes: All the core (sorcerors use the battle sorceror variant from UA, wizards can use the specialist variants from UA if they choose to, barbs can use whirling frenzy and/or totem if they want, druid gain a domain chosen from air/earth/water/fire/sun/plant/animal); psionic characters (i only have the original psionics book, so any changes must be explained to me); shadowcaster form ToM (if you want truname or binder, they might be okay. i'm undecided); some of the classes from the complete series (warlock, scout, maybe the oriental classes).
Others may be okay, just ask me first.

@Neptune: Good to have you in on this. The write-up of the CS is quite sparse at the moment so ask be if you need ideas or help.

@Nat20: I was thinking of adding in worforged (although they would be partially magic powwered, partially steam-powered. they're an new experimental war machine). I don't actually have a book that includes them so i am fuzzy on what their stats and rules are. If you could let me know, they could definitely fit in.

@Ishmayl: If you want to join, that would be great. The timing isn't much of a problem since i have a pretty busy but irregular schedule too. Just post when you can.

Okay, well I think I'll shoot for the role of the party's Rogue or, preferably, Scout if Asheratis are allowed.

If Raptorians are allowed I will most likely play as a Cleric or a Fighter. Raptorians have a new Domain, Air, which is relatively short + I could send.

Here are the Asherati. They are from Sandstorm.

30ft base speed

+1 natural armor

Natural Dryness (Ex): Asherati need only 1/4 the amount of water humans need each day

Sandswim (Su): As water is to Merfolk, so is sand to the Asherati. An Asherati can 'swim' through sand, ash, dust, or similar substances (not rock or packed dirt) at their base speed while wearing up to light armor and carrying a light load. An Asherati's speed drops to 5ft is wearing heaver armor or carrying a medium load. An Asherati cannot sandswim with a heavy load. Asherati can breath normally under the sand.

Body Lamp (Su): An Asherati can make his skin glow at will, providing bright illumination out to 60ft, and shadowy illumination out to 120ft. This also allows them to make out solid objects up to 60ft away while sandswiming. Once per day, an Asherati can bring his skin up to full brilance so quickly that all creatures within 30ft are dazzeled unless they make a Fort saving throw (DC 10+1/2 Asherati's character level+cha modifier).

Heat Endurance as a bonus feat: +2 on saves vs fire, don't have to make Fort saves vs heat unless tempature is at least 120 degress F.

Asherati treat the Eagle's Claw as a martial weapon

+2 racial bonus on hide and move silently. An Asherati cannot hide while their skin is glowing. In sandy areas, Asherati gain an extra +2 on hide checks.

Water Vulnerability: If completely wet, Asherati take a -1 penalty on attack rolls, ability checks, and skill checks. If submerged, they cannot hold their breath.

Automatic langauges: Asherati, Common. Bonus langauges: Bhuka, Goblin, Giant.

â,¬'Gliding (Ex): A raptoran can use her wings to glide, negating damage from a fall of any height and allowing 20 feet of forward travel for every 5 feet of descent. Raptorans glide at a speed of 40 feet (average maneuverability). Can't hover while gliding.Can't glide while carrying a medium or heavy load. If becomes unconscious or helpless in midair, only 1d6 points of falling damage, no matter what the actual distance of the fall.

-When a raptorian reaches 5 HD they gain a fly speed of 40 feet with average maneuverability. They can't fly while carrying a medium or heavy load or while fatigued or exhausted. They can safely fly for a number of rounds equal to their Con modifier (minimum 1). They can exert themselves to fly for twice that long, but they are fatigued at the end of the flight. They are likewise fatigued after spending more than 10 minutes per day flying. When they reach 10 HD they can fly indefinitely (as though Walking or Running).

-A raptorian with flight can make a dive attack. This works like a charge, but the raptorian must move a minimum of 30 feet and descend at least 10 feet. A raptorian can make a diving attack only while weilding a piercing weapon. If the attack hits, it deals double damage.
A raptorian in flight may use the run action while flying, provided she flies in a straight line.

After discussing some stuff with senk, Ahserati and Raptorians are both playable races.

As it stands now, i beleive he is playing an asherati cleric, but he might have changed.

also, warforged are allowed if you want to use them (senk was nice enough to provide me with their rules).

starting gold will be 500.

When is the game starting?  Is there at least a tentative date layed out?  I plan on making a warforged fighter probably, but my b-day is in 8 days, and that is when I will be getteing Races of Eberron.

My current plan for a start date, is wednesday after next (the 3rd or may i beleive). i will need like a week-ish to get some stuff together, and then there's comicon on the weekend, i work monday evening and i have a warhammer club on tuesday evening. if you guys would like to start earlier, we could probably begin on sunday the 30th, but you gotta let me know soon if you want to.

the big red loop is the rough borders of Eltabar, and the circle is your starting city. it's a largish trading port and is one of the center of industry (specifically of making warmachines like warforged, arms an armour, and other newer stuff). due to their great influence and prosperity, there has been rumours that many of the ruling merchant council are sepratists and plan to cede from the nation and form an independant trade state.

@nat - this was one of the reasons i was thinking of starting on the 3rd instead. it gives you some time after getting the books. if you think you'd need longer to look at them before making the character, is there any way you could look through the books you're getting quickly before then?(maybe flip through them at a store to get a rough idea worked out in your head, and then work out all the details once you get them).

@ senk - cool beans, man. i look forwards to seeing it. if you want any help intergrating his background into the world let me msn or aim me (or if anyone else wants help for that matter).

@ everyone else - can we just quickly get a show of hands on who's thinking of playing and what you think your character would be to help others work out what's missing from the party.
