Towel Ninja

Arannia, or Earth as it was once known, is an old and worn out planet that has seen more conflict then any one person ever could.
It is still a magnificent beautiful place but it is has been made different since the humans lived here, now it is filled with a natural energy that has had a tremendous positive effect upon the planet, over time its filled the deepest scars on the surface and grown mountains to unusual heights that make them visible around the world.

Arannia now plays host to a very wide range of species, the most notable ones being the Eladrin, Dwarves, Gnomes, Halflings, StarKin, And the Eld(er*)Kin...(Brick wall mentally...)

Arannia is very rich in an energy referred to as "Arcane" and it has been discovered that the arcane realm was destroyed and thus releasing the Arcane energy which has spread through out every realm now and it has granted many abilities to a multitude of good and evil beings.

Dwarves are a race that are relativley peaceful at heart, however one would not see this the first time they met them as dwarves tend to come across as harsh meen people. The vast majority of dwarves live in and on top of mountains, There are some who live in forests but they are still close with their mountain dwelling brethren.
Mountain Dwarves are the most common kind of dwarves and are also the most withdrawn from society, They live in great stone buidings that are either carved in the mountain or are built from the strongest stone and resemble a fortress. They dedicate a large portion of their lives to Mineing the finest metal and crafting the finest weapons or armor. Some dwarves however, go the route of military and become dwarven defenders which are famous for their ability to hold any line no matter the odds. (this is just random stuff off the top of my head mind you..)

Eladrin  were birthed from the elves when they had disrupted the arcane flow and twisted reality to bring down the Blazing Moon. The result from twisting reality left the elves alive but altered physically and mentally. They now called themselves the Eladrin and believed themselves to be the gods way of replacing elves. Every Eladrin is born with a memory fragment from an elf long past, most never know the memory exists but some open themselves to this memory and go mad trying to figure out who they truly are.

The typically live in forests or on the tops of mountains with dwarves, they get along very well with dwarves and enjoy sharing crafting techniques and teach the dwarves how to craft wood in exchange for learning how to craft Metal.

The Eladrin are now physically part of the arcane flow and because of this they are very sensitive to spell casting and can tell when a spell is being cast within 10 feet of them, This also means that anything that nullifies the arcane flow (such as anti-magic fields) well give them headaches and sometimes muscle pains.

Their eyes are a solid color, this is said to be arcane energy swirling within their eyes. This theory is backed by the fact that when they cast an arcane spell their eyes glow brightly and an aura flairs up around them that resembles smoke, it also is colored the same as their eyes. The most common color eyes/auras are Blue, Green, Purple,  and Grey. Uncommon ones are Yellow, Red,  Silver,   and Teal. Rare ones are Gold, White, and  Orange. Note, by rare I mean that they are extremely rare and anyone born with these colors are usually forced into being a mage and then later on, a leader of the nation.
Also, The more brilliant and defined the color of the aura is, the more powerful the caster.

(Note, this is only a rough draft of the story behind the elves dieing off)

4535 years ago a mighty empire made up of demons and all manners of evil rose to power and laid siege to Arannia, the people at this time were  not ready to face such and army, or at least the demons  thought.
Then the mighty elves marched from every forest in the world, every man, women, and child heeded this call of duty. This army was numbered in the millions and they were still outnumbered 3-1, but they fought anyways, the war waged for many years until the elves had halved the forces of the darkness, However one mighty being rose up and brought with him the army of a god that hated the elves for binding him to the underworld, and so they were struck down and the remaining survivers went into hiding until one by one they were killed except one group, said to descend from the elven gods they made a final march on the day that the comet(needs name) crossed the sky and together with all their life force and all the gathered spirits of the elves they brought the comet down onto the planet and crashed it where the army was marching across the lands, they also spent energy containing the global damage and making sure it was minimalized. The comet having been very magical itself left a permanent scar upon the ground in the form of a lifeless desert, the only oasis is where the last elves stood when they died.

The dark army was destroyed and with them so were many of the gods that marched with them, this was the greatest victory the light has ever known, however it came with a price for as soon as the elves died off so did their gods for why no one knows, however there was a magically infused race that found themselves suddenly alive with memories not belonging to them, this race came to call themselves the Eladrin.

Gnome

Halfling

Human

SkyFallen are a unique and very alien race to Arannia, They arrived roughly 5000 years ago and have blended into the world very well since then, some have distanced themselves from the other races while others have embraced them with open arms and kind hearts. The skyfallen have
kept many if not all of their traditions and still celebrate all their holidays. They have also introduced many great things to Arannia such as their clockwork technology which they shared in exchange for learning about steam technology, They also introduced Astromancy which is the skyfallen magic that uses arcane energy to tap the energy produced by the stars.

WILL PUT SNIPLET OF INFO FOR EACH CLASS IN A FEW
The Cleric is a priest who has devoted their life to god and also sworn to defeat their enemies, protect their temples, and spread their teachings. Some gods of course require other things from their clerics, such as good gods wanting them to protect other people from harm, or evil gods wanting their clerics to sacrifice people in their name.

The Druid is typically someone who lives in the forest and has dedicated their lives to taking care of nature. More often then not they prefer to keep to themselves away from other people. They live amongst animals and tend to keep very little personal possessions.

The Fighter can be anything from Barbarian to a Knight but the later is the most common. Ill update this later.

The Paladin is a holy warrior who rides into battle on his gods behalf. He usually dedicates his life to his god at a relatively young age and becomes training as a paladins pupil shortly thereafter. The paladin has many roles depending upon the god, Some may have them serve as guardians to its priests and great shrines.

The Ranger is a hunter at heart, he will wander the world and live off the land, or make homestead in a forest nearby and serve as a guide for people so that he may afford new clothes or other such things. They specialize in the use of bow and arrow and a minimal amount of spells they learn to cast over time.

This section will be filled when i make my random paragraphs readable to other people.

Steam Tech is currently very popular in Arannia, it has taken away some of the reliance on magic in every day life and it also seems to attract the wealthy. (Of course, *excuse here* so ill update later)
The train is most popular steam invention to date, It is currently the most widely used form of transportation for both people and misc. cargo.

Clockwork Technology was invented a long time ago by an Eladrin Tinkerer and his apprentice a Gnomeish Tinkerer. Together they made a very important invention, the clock. From there clockwork spread very fast and showed up in many different forms, one of the more popular forms are clockwork animals that the eladrin make.
The first clockwork animal was made by an Eladrin wizard who's familiar had recently died. After his familiar died he locked himself in his house for months and when he emerged he had a clockwork rat upon his shoulder, it was the same familiar, the only difference is the fact that it is now made of metal. (Will redo this later)

Magic is a strong force in the world of Arannia, it suddenly came into existence a long time ago before people can ever remember. There are two forms of magic on Arannia and they are, Arcane, and Divine. Each of these is used differently by each race and is completely unaligned.
Arcane magic is the natural free magic that flows through everything, something as small as an atom even has arcane energy flowing through it at all times. The magic was discovered by all races around roughly the same time and they each developed their own way of using it.

Divine magic is at its core, arcane magic that has been taken in by a god and reshaped into a new power that only gods can grant. It has a special bond with whichever god granted the powers, because of this the god knows instantly what spell is being cast and where its being cast.
Hibou

This is 4e, correct? What happened to the warlock?

Looks promising for so little there is right now. The SkyFallen bringing technology to the world is a very overdone - but potentially awesome - concept. I'm interested in seeing how you do it.

Towel Ninja

Thanks for bringing up the warlock, i completely spaced them out >.>

And i figured they would bring only bits and pieces of clockwork that they used to have and from there gnomes would pick it up and stuff like that. The world already had steam tech when they arrived but the skyfallen didnt so they exchanged tech for tech.

EDIT: not to get off topic but i hate heath ledger for dying..Now he cant play the joker in future movies T_T... BEST JOKER EVUR!

If the world used to have advanced technology, is it possible for players to uncover lost artifacts like microwaves or Rubik's Cubes?

Towel Ninja

If one of my players ever asked if he could find a Rubik's cube i would let him but id have to be in a good mood. Uhmm as for the microwave and stuff no it doesnt exist anymore, it well after everything has had time to decay. The only things left really are the Egyptian pyramids which now look like mountains and also a vault made by the the Swedish i think. Its a vault that is actually made and its in like Antarctica and it contains a sample of every known species dna.

EDIT: I like to make exceptions for stuff like wanting to find a Rubik's cube. Its fun and it would baffle the character :P

Nomadic

How far in the future is this? Cause how far off it is will have a large impact on how the world looks.

Towel Ninja

Yeah i actually havent put alot of thought into that yet, i was thinking of making it to the point where a continent or two have merged but i wasnt sure. Maybe within the first 300,000 years after the fall of technology/humans.

Nomadic

Well I will just assume here (for simplicities sake) that the fall of technology is happening in the near future (relating to the real world here). 300,000 years is a great deal of time for a species. Not so much on the geologic scale as you can see below.

That is the world 150 million years in the future if the scientific predictions are to be believed (and I don't think they are much off in this case). However this doesn't mean there won't be change. For one thing pretty much all marks of past human technology will have vanished (this includes the pyramids). One prediction I have heard is that the likely candidate for last recognizable man-made structure is Mount Rushmore (which if the theories are to be believed could well last over 100,000 years before all recognizable features fade completely). With the fall of technology you will also likely see a change in humanity. It would take something serious to stop all technology. We are an inventive species and we already have learned alot. It would take something actively stopping us from reinventing modern society (probably within a few hundred years at worst) to keep us in the stone age. So on this vein with that something stopping us we revert to a pre-modern style of life. Humans become physically stronger and mentally weaker as we again find need for more brawn and less brain. After some 300,000 years with no hope of technology you would very well see Humans as not much more than slightly smarter animals (similar to apes) and nothing else. I am not sure if this is what you want but I have yet to see what you plan on doing to overcome any issues and get what you desire in this game.

On that note I would like to hear about your ideas on overcoming Human re-invention and total decline (or going with it).

Towel Ninja

Hmm, i really like that layout of the world, thank you for showing me that...

As for the human issue, I honestly have no idea how to work it, i could make a new race that would basically be human..I might do that or maybe i could have it relate to the gods somehow, maybe a garden of eden style thing with a fruit of knowledge? or maybe the gods feel pity on them being so stupid and grant them some intelligence :P

Pair o' Dice Lost

You could simply have it that humans remember all the technology and such but have no means to make it; without a functioning infrastructure, recreating computers from the ground up would be next to impossible even if you had computer specialists on hand--you'd need to be able to make wires, chips, batteries, etc., and if all their tech is computer-controlled...well, they're royally screwed.
Call me Dice--that's the way I roll.
