I'm currently trying to create a city map for a city with 1.6 million people, and I'm not sure which level of detail to choose.

Does anyone know of any good examples of maps of cities with similar sizes which do not show every street but have some level of abstraction when it comes to city layout?

There are probably some city maps on the cartographer's guild (I seem to recall there are).

You could do something similar to my city map of Palaoyr

Map

Its about 150,000 population within the walls (alot more outside). But by that point you have reached metropolis style layout and the maps will follow similar design in comparison to say a village.

That the same rules designed to reduce the role of the GM and to empower the player also destroyed the autonomy to create a consistent setting. And more importantly, these rules reduce the Roleplaying component of what is supposed to be a \'Fantasy Roleplaying game\' to something else\"-Vreeg

I left streets and major districts marked. I use submaps derived from the PDF for smaller venues and buroughs within the city. Importing it into layers across Photoshop helps as well, if you have a projector you use during your sessions.

You know if you guys could link me to any guides on the cartographers guild for mapping cities in photoshop I would be overjoyed.

Also if you know any tutorials for non-random photoshop world mapping...

Steel General

There's this one on Cartographer's Guild
or this one.

By the same person, but very good I thought.
