I posted this in the tavern but I figure I should give everyone a chance to see it.

Anyhow, crazy idea here. Everytime we change the ranks ishy picks a setting and something in that setting that could be used for said ranks. So for one rank period everyone has ranks based on prominent deities in Panisadore while for the next one we all have ranks based on the inhabitants of Calisenthe. Rank changes don't happen too much and we actually have a fair bit of material spread out between the wiki and the forums so there should be enough for ranks for quite awhile (and we are always getting new stuff).

Anyhow, it's just an idea that gives the ranks a bit more of a connection to the community. I am certain it would make the members feel special seeing things related to the settings they have created and commented on.

That's not a bad idea. Ishy's call, though. Maybe he enjoys coming up with random ranks every once in a while.

I vote that the ranks in the next CBG ranking system be various CBG ranking systems, from newest to oldest: [Deep Trenches], [Tall Mountains], etc.

At some point we used hit points.

I like Nomadic's idea. But in the past Ishy said the rankings had to be numerically quantifiable from highest to lowest. Many settings may not allow for that.

Yeah, this is a very tough requirement. Especially since we need, what, ten steps? I'm not sure the Jade Stage even has anything that would fit those criteria at all.

Now, I think, would be a good time to post anything you've got (or anything you're aware of in someone else's setting) that actually works with those guidelines. Just so we can see what our usable options are.

I know in Divergence the tanks could be all the different Powers, since they organize themselves in chronological order, First-->however many there end up being. I only have 6? Powers at the moment, so it couldn't be used right away, but maybe I'll have 10 eventually.

For the whole quantifiable highest to lowest that isn't as hard as you think.  Hierarchies, caste systemes, population are all things that fit that.

We could all be major cities who vary in population seize.

On a side note how do the ranks work? I know it isn't by post count because if you look at the top posters they have a few different ranks between em. I think time plays a factor since the older the member the higher their rank (even compared to their post count).

Nomadic

I know Karros has a few. Largest cities, Most influential guilds, Most prevalent languages, etc. Oh and post count is the primary reason as far as I know since I have always gone up a rank at very specific posts (I can't recall the exact numbers but it was akin to 50, 100, 250, 500, 1000, etc)

This is not from a campaign setting, but I was struck by the sudden remembering of a vocal consonant warm-up I learned back in drama club. (Yes.)  Some of them would have to be truncated for ranks, but that's okay.

- One fat hen
- A couple of ducks
- Three brown bears
- Four running hares
- Five fat felines
- Six simple Simons sitting on a stump
- Seven Sicilian sailors sailing the seven seas
- Eight egotistical egotists egotistically echoing egotistical ecstasies
- Nine Nubian nudes nimbly nibbling gnats' knuckles and nicotine
- I slit a sheet, a sheet I slit; upon a slitted sheet I sit
- I'm not the pheasant-plucker nor the pheasant-plucker's son, but I'll pluck your pheasant 'till the pheasant-plucker comes

For maximum effect, pronounce them out loud. (Carefully.)

For Campaign related ones, from Avayevnon I could give the rough structure of the Soleist Church.

Daykeeper
Sun Priest
Heliox
Solarius
Lord Pontiff
Bethor
