For classic rock, it gets no better than this.

For finite types, like human beings, getting the mind around the concept of infinity is tough going.  Apparently, the same is true for cows.

That dude with the acoustic bass is awesome.

But I'll see your Golden Earring and raise you Little Feat.

This rendition gives me new appreciation for one which had always been pretty much background music for me when played. I really like the moody acoustic guitar solo in some solid melatonin music (= doesn't sound right until after sunset - like everything by Sisters of Mercy. . .)

Quote from: IshmaylI like that "Waiting Through the Afternoon Song," and you can never really go wrong with David Bowie.  I'm curious, did Vanilla Ice really do that remake, or is that someone else?  (I don't know enough about Vanilla Ice to know if that was him or not, or what he's up to).
Check out more Dropping Daylight. I love those guys, have since they were just a local band called Sue Generis.

Vanilla Ice really did that song. He still makes music. Or maybe I should say he actually makes music now.

I'll have to return here in the morning with more.

Yeah, I first heard them last New Year's Eve on some show hosted by Garrison Keilor on Pearls Before Swine. I'm not really into country (the Dickey Lee cut notwithstanding), but some of the classic sound I do enjoy. My general ringtone is the first "grown up record" I ever owned. (Won it, a 45 w/"The Unfaithful Servant" on the B-side, at some church function when I was 6. Been a fan ever since. . .)

Garrison Keillor is a god among mortals, it's true.

If you dig OCMS, you should give a try to the Avett Brothers, Crooked Still, the Wailin' Jennys, Nickel Creek, Strength in Numbers... should I keep going, or is that enough for a start?

good for now - I used to have NC's debut. New Grass can be hit/miss to my taste - OCMS has some I like (I love Wagon Wheel - and the video's fun) and some doesn't quite get there for me. The Band was quite consistent in its appeal - but note the rock elements. . . Not quite sure how to pin down when it does or doesn't - something often in the harmonies *but very dependent upon timbre/tonal qualities* - this reflects in my taste in other music too - I loved the vocal harmonies that ELO displayed in the mid -70's (I like the rawness of their first albums too. . .) but what I really liked about those harmonies was largely th e product of how their specific voices blended together.

BTW, while I'm not into gospel, one of the finest albums of all time was The Blind Boys of Alabama's "Spirit of the Century." (When I worked at Virgin in Denver we sold about 10 times more out of the Blues than the Gospel section. . .)

Okay. This was just brought to my attention today.

While this is probably more mainstream than anything posted here (i haven't watched/listened to all the links), this is one band that is just genius.

Gotta add my all time #1 favorite recording. This introduced me to Van Morrison's work back when I was in Junior High (and still listening to glam rock. . .) and no matter how many times I listen to it, it just amazes me more. His vocal style here is the loosest I've heard him display over the decades yet, at the same time, the band (almost a semi-acoustic chamber orchestra) is phenomenally tight throughout and the thematic transitions absolutely seamless - the recording is flawless. What astounds me is that the performance sounds as if it were scored down to every note, but what Van did vocally makes that seem impossible - more like the composition was more of an outline of tightly scored passages which the musicians had thoroughly down along with an unshakable comprehension of, and ability to follow, his seemingly rambling repetitions. Later in the piece you'll hear what I mean - some of it just sounds like he couldn't have written it all out word-for-word/note-by-note - but it would make a stupendous challenge for the most improvisational jazz group to pull off this cleanly. So I just sit, smile like an idiot and shake my head in wonder for 15 minutes. . . Even if it's not really your thing, it's like nothing else you'll ever hear. Enjoy.
