Ecology of the Oculian.

'The adventures, slowly strode down the hall.  Agrivam the fight took the lead his broad sowrd slick with the blood of kobolds that he had slain in the chamber before.  He took a brief look to Shivanus the elf blooded ranger, and nodded.  Shivanus smiled at the man.  She had traveled with him for long time.  She felt the large hand of Bosk Dol Gran on her shoulder and she could see the large Oculian battlemage behind her.  He dwarfed her in size and made the halls of swordkings look small.  Agrivam, turned the corner his boot about to touch solid stone.  Shivanus saw the look that came upon Bosk.  She had seen it before, and only when the Oculian's sixth sense came to being.  In a blur the one eyed mage sprang forward just as Agrivam's foot set of the trap.  Bosk pulled the man back even as the trap sprang and deadly bolts of searing energy, hot enough to burn a man entierly vented upward.  Agrivam looked at his companion.   'Whew that was a close one. Im glad ive eyes behind me.'  Bosk Dol Gran, sighed and simply winked.

Off the shores of Bregan Bol, the hard seas of the Oceanus slam against the cliff side of the lands the Oculain's have called home for over thousand years.

The Oculians are the masters of this island and the story of their race is mixed with both fact and fiction, spread out amongst the kingdoms of Chalice.

History of the Oculians

During the Morn Wars between the Formorii and the Imortalis, raged, the Formorii created children that would be able to harass the gods, from this was born the Forspawn  the Oculian's where one such creatures, that were created.  They were brothers to the giant fey creatures known as the Formorians, yet unlike their vile and twisted family, the Oculian's were something entirely new. In many ways even though crafted from the primordial elements of their sires, they rose to better themselves against those who had created them.  The Oculians turned against their fathers and mothers, and as a race joined, the Imortalis Gods against their enemies.

Once the Formorii were defeated, slain or chained, the Imortalis granted the Oculians a place of peace, creating  the realms of Brindol Bol Branna in the realm of the Feydawn.

The Oculians would not come into contact with the other races of chalice, for many years as they grew their realm in the Feydawn.  Unknowing to them, not all of Formorii children persished in the Morn War.  Their own kin the Formorian's had escaped into another realm as well known as the Umbral Shadow.  Here the Formorian plotted against, the Imortalis and their kin, and when the time was right they invaded the Feydawn, and Brindol Brol Branna.  Thus began the War of the shattered eye, as Formorian and Oculian battled each other across the feydawn.

By this time the Oculians had been blessed by the Imortalis, and could harness the power of clerical might, as well as arcane power.

The battle raged through the years, but it seemed the Formorian countered everything that the Oculians could through at the beasts.  In the end the Oculians were enslaved; many sought escape and refuge from their fate, creating portals into Chalice in which they escaped.  Their fate though was servitude.  The  Oculians that had escaped upon Chalice encountered an even greater adversary.  The Mage-lords of Hysoril, ruled Chalice at this time, and they saw the Oculians as worthy addition to their ongoing war against the Sorcerers of Kar'magus.

The Mage-lords were strict masters, and the Oculians under there rule, were seen as second class citizens.  During the Epoch of the Phoenix they were seen as soldier, gladiators, common servants and bred as stock.  Being slaves they died at the whim of their masters and it would not be till the end of the war and Hysroils destruction that they would gain their freedom

During the age of Shadows, the Oculian promised they would never again be put under the authority of another, and they headed northwest.  It took them years until they reached the Oceanus, and created ships to sail further north.  After several months of sailing they fell upon the shores of Bregan Bol, and ever since they have claimed it as their home.

Even on the island the Oculians had to contend with a court of wizards, former Mage-lords that had escaped and formed their own kingdom on the island Known as the court of winters. learning well the lesson of their captivity they wasted no time raging war against the court with their elven allies.  The Court of Winter was bested, and encased in an enchanted chest, they would forever be guarded by the elves.

The Oculians turned their eyes to their brethren in the Feydawn, and launched forays against the Formorian lords.  Even though they could not overthrow the Formorians they were able to rescue their people, and return home to Bregan Bol.

The Oculians since the  age of shadows have spread out amongst the peoples of Chalice, and can be found in almost every town or kingdom in the  world.

Ecology.

The Oculian are a strong and robust people.   The males stand close to seven feet in height, while the women stand closer to six feet.  All Oculian are born with 9-12 months of conception, and age similar to that of humans.  Oculians mate for life; they see chivalric romance as an art and woo their intended for several courting ritual begin.'

An Oculian is known for the one eye that sit in the middle of it head.  Many would think that the Oculians would have poor sensory depth perception. This is often a mistake deep within the Oculian's head is  gland that acts as a sensory rudder that allows the Oculian to have perfect vision and also give the it a sixth sense of sorts that alerts them to danger.

Oculian physical build are strong and sinewy, and well muscled.  They take to strength of arms readily and are known to be some of the best guards and warriors that walk  the lands. They are also incredible intelligent and have a deep connection to the elemental ways of sorcery.  It is not uncommon to see a Oculian sorcerer amongst a adventure party, backing them up with both spell and wands.

On Bregan Bol, The Oculians are excellent seafarers and see the oceans as their second home.  They are proven wave riders, surfing the turbulent waters on boards of whale bone.  Wave surfing is one of their favorite past times.

Oculians are expert sages and craftsmen spending time upon the skills and crafts that will serve them in life, they see no need to rush, having a life span that is twice that of a humans, most Oculians live to be about one hundred and fifty years old.

Enemies

'I tell ya there is no more hated enemies between the Minotaurs and the Oculian, they'd shank each other as quickly as they could.  I can't blame the one eyes though, since the horned ones have been ravaging their home, I'd gut one as soon as look at them.'

Marcus 'Fishbone' crebs'

Sailor on the Enchanted Mast

Epoch of Destiny

Since the Epoch of Discovery, the one enemy that the Oculians have hated as much as the Formorians has been the Minotaur raiders that have constantly waged war against them.  The  Oculians have battled the Minotuars for more than a hundred years, and often contest the horned ones over owner ship of Bregan Bol.  There has been no let up in the conflict between the two, and often raids occur against each other. Even though the Minotaur's pirate fleet is massive, they have not been able to dominate the conflict and make Bregan Bol their own.

Oculian's see the Minotaurs as uncouth beasts with little or no honor, they have no thought of slaying one if there is a reason to.  They feel that the minotaurs do not seek friendship and will not open a hand to peace even if broached.  So they watch their boarders and prepare for the next attack or, launch their own preemptive strike themselves.

Oculian's also see Formorian giants as oppressors, and seek to stamp out their evil where ever it might be.  They hate their kin for all the years of slavery they have endured, and always seek a way to repay their kindness back in turn.  Their hatred for them grow greater, since several Formorian garrisons have appeared from the
Feydawn upon their Island.  The Oculians are quick to answer their brothers in force, slaying them outright and rescuing any Oculians that remain captive to them.
