Pokemon/Mons genre RPG

Summoners can play this style. The problem is in considering how many players such a game would focus on. I think the genre is more suitable for single player or PvP situations, not party style RPGs. If the entire party is playing monsters in one trainer's group, then it's really just a regular rpg with different dressings.

Sorry if this was already said. I think such a character within a standard RPG situation amongst more traditional characters can be fun. Summoners have great versatility. If everyone's playing a summoner, some of the fun can be removed.

I'm sure playing a summoner is fun. However being as this is set up (from the begining) to be a coversion of GS to a more Mons genre friendly ruleset; I think people would be comming into the game with eyes open in regards to everyone playing a trainer.

But, you're looking at this from the point of view of a class-based system. GS isn't class based, so while everyone uses Mons to fight, each trainer can be widely different. GS is completely skill-based, so (if I do my job properly) there will be a large variety of skills for people to use.

I meant that if the players were all playing 'mons' owned by the same trainer, then it would just be standard with different dressings. If everyone's a player with their own 'mons' then that's different.

While the system you're using isn't class based, I think the 'mons' themselves will probably end up tending towards some type of roles. You'll probably have defensive things and offensive things, and I hope that you have some type of elemental/type affinities.

My concern is that if everyone has three monsters, or whatever the number will be, you'll have to take extra effort to make sure that the monsters can be suitably customized, and that their trainer's skills and abilities make their monsters fundamentally different. That way if two players catch a "Monster X", their "Monster Xs" play differently.

Good luck! This sounds like it could be a fun thing.
