I was never really a fan of eccleston as the doctor, he was far too angry and I think him leaving the show was for the best. Tenant's doctor was far more interested and entertaining. I do think that what really limited Tenant's doctor (besides the writing) was his last two companions Martha and Donna. I found Martha to be rather bland and Donna was annoying.

Just got done watching the new ep.

The episode is good, but not great. It does do a good job of introducing the new companion, but I think that the writers could have found more a subtle way to set up the season long story arc.

so far I like the new doctor, but it worries me that he is still acting like the old doctor. at least that is the impression that I got. I am really hoping that they begin to move away from Tenant's Manic doctor and really give this new doctor his own personality.

I do not like the new tardis set, it looks so incredibly campy and lame. The design style looks like a mixture of the 60's series, the 8th doctors from the TV movie, and the last set. none of it seems to really go together.

The map really does help.

Let's hear about the graveyard.

So is there a way to create an artifact without going completely insane or dying?

How about a person creating multiple artifacts?
#4
I would like to hear more on artifacts.

Let's say that I want to play something akin to a spellcaster in your setting, how would that work? How do the artifacts allow a PC to use magic? Do they act as a focus or does each artifact have a unique ability?

Quote from: Cataclysmic CrowWe spend billions on worshipping people who really aren't qualified for anything else than a single type of competition.

Sports can be fun, but nothing more. You are not a hero because you are good at a sport, and neither are you saving lives nor creating anything worthwhile. At most you are the best at some sport in the world, and then what? The gold medal your country earned doesn't make your country any better, and it's not like you have essentially accomplished anything in the grand scheme of things. Next year (well, 4 in this case) somebody else will come along and grab the trophy, and on and on and on.

I really don't get how sport has become so idolized is all. It's fun for the participant and for nationally competitive watchers, but it's not good or awesome or anything.

My thoughts exactly!

Quote from: XXsiriusXXIs this a start to a much larger story? Or is it just a snippet piece?

If it is a start to a much larger story, it is an interesting and has a nice hook to it. I would like to see more if you have it.

Well it was just a snippet, but I could always write a bit more about them if you'd like.

i wouldn't mind reading more.

Quote from: Elemental_ElfI watched most of the original over the weekend, this looks far, far superior.

It is. It is worth checking out.

I really enjoyed the first episode!

Something I'm noticing is that there's a shift away from the Nazi/Fascism of the original V's and a decided bent towards a fanatical/blind-faith religiosity. It definitely says a lot about the times in which we live...

My only problem is that...
Alan Tudyk is a bad guy :(
I think that was one of the best parts of the pilot and of the upcoming episode.

Quote from: Cataclysmic CrowFor us in the dark and with no access to the majority of american tv; what is it about?

For those of you not living in the U.S.

The basic plot outline of V is that modern day earth makes contact with an Alien race. This alien race, who call themselves the visitors, look exactly like humans and have come in search of elements that they vitally need.  These elements are abundant on earth and they are willing to trade some of their advance technology for them. Unfortunately the Visitors are not what they seem, and their benevolent actions hide a sinister intent for humanity.

Quote from: Leetz1. Leylines. Every different type of magic has it's own unique set of leylines, even the wild Phaen. There leylines rest on Penda Lume like latitude and longitude lines, but don't look anything like them. Some leylines are straight and orderly, others are seemingly random and unruly. No one knows why or how the leylines exist, but they do know that the each element of magic works better, if not exclusively, when practiced on it's corresponding leyline.

Interesting.

So what happens when two different leylines cross one another?

Quote from: LeetzSparkwork items and artifacts sputter and fail in the presence of sufficient Aethra, enchanted weapons and armor lose their potency, and other spells created by other elements of magika often do not work.

You say often doesn't work, under what circumstances does magika still function?

Quote from: XXsiriusXXRead the first four novels, started the fifth and the stories pace slowed to a crawl and I couldn't continue.  So, I really don't have any interest is the new book, but I hope that it provides a satisfying ending for people who have enjoyed the series.

That's interesting you say that, because most people overwhelmingly agree that books 4-6 Awere the definite highlight of the series, in terms of action, pacing, plot advancement, etc...

Eh, I'm not most people.

I found the story, (Books 1-5), very long winded and at some points down right boring.  I have never been a big fan of Robert Jordan's work. I read a few of his Conan stories and was rather unimpressed. I wasn't even going to bother reading the Wheel of Time series, but my friends were telling me how good it was. So I gave it a try, just wasn't for me.
