I have to admit guys - after loving this series for so long, and then spending the last 6 years being extremely pissed at it...

I CANNOT WAIT FOR THIS FRAKKIN BOOK.

Anyone else really getting excited for next Tuesday, or is it just me?

Edit: Please note, though I didn't create this thread to be a discussion of the merits or dismerits (yes, I'm claiming rights to that word) of the Wheel of Time series as a whole - in actuality, I created it so fan nerds could share their enthusiasm if such exists - I don't mind said discussion.  So if  you love, hate, whatever WoT, TALK ABOUT IT, YO!

Hey, thought you were talking about CBG 2.0. :yumm:

Never read any Wheel of Time-- I guess my reading tastes have moved away in a different direction before I could get around to it, maybe? Although I am still invested in my old favorites: when you mentioned that it was a book, I immediately thought that you, like me, might be pulling out your hair in frustration at the repeated delays of this one.

Edit: The word "demerits" it a literal opposite of "merits", but has a lot of connotation steering it toward usage as an opposite of "accolades." I am somewhat enchanted by "dismerits", though!

I own one of those books, read about a 1/4 of it before school got in my way... Drat, I really should read this series, I have heard nothing but good things.

Read the first four novels, started the fifth and the stories pace slowed to a crawl and I couldn't continue.  So, I really don't have any interest is the new book, but I hope that it provides a satisfying ending for people who have enjoyed the series.

That's interesting you say that, because most people overwhelmingly agree that books 4-6 were the definite highlight of the series, in terms of action, pacing, plot advancement, etc...

Yeah, my first thought was CBG 2.0, as well, LC.

Looking forward to both books.

Thank you for the heads-up, but that first review was almost impossible to read.

And I too expectantly opened this thread, thinking it was about CBG 2.0.

As did I.  I have an obligatory joke for the CBG 2.0, but for the Wheel of Time?  I go nothing.

Mayhaps a thread title change is needed?  Or mayhaps this is exactly the title needed to actually attract people into looking at the thread? :)

Eh, I'm not most people.

I found the story, (Books 1-5), very long winded and at some points down right boring.  I have never been a big fan of Robert Jordan's work. I read a few of his Conan stories and was rather unimpressed. I wasn't even going to bother reading the Wheel of Time series, but my friends were telling me how good it was. So I gave it a try, just wasn't for me.

I'm of the opinion that a gentle decline began after Book 2, which gradually became more and more precipitous.  I went through the motions for quite a while, but around book 7-8 I realized that I was only reading out of some vague sense of wanting to finish what I started.  While I suppose it's good that the series is being wrapped up, I personally have no intention of buying or reading it.

Almost exactly here.  If they'd wrapped it up by book 4, I'd be thinking, "Fantastic'.  By book 7, "Decent'.  Now?  Now even buying the wrap up.
Ish, Love you, enjoy the read.  maybe the turtlicious review will change my mind.

I'll disagree Polycarp- the first book was pretty bad. It read like a very poor Hobbit/Lord of the Rings knockoff.

The 5th book, the Fires of Heaven is perhaps my favorite tale, however. I also enjoyed books 4 and 6 to  lesser degree.

The winter's heart tale which involved only one day of travel however was perhaps the most tedious and pointless of the books... why won't the foolish kidnapping and resurrections stop (!)

Steerpike

To me the series (particularly the early books) is redeemed from its various flaws simply by the wonderfully macabre inventions of Machin Shin, Mashadar, Shadar Logoth, and the Blight, which personally I find much cooler than Mordor, even if it is a tad derivative (the idea of the Borderlands actually had quite a bit of influence on CE, I think).

I may have to finish reading the series once this new entry comes out (I think I made it to book 8 or 9 before putting it down to read ASOIAF instead).
