Hmm, but the way the lower-left continent is distorted makes it seem like it's on a curved surface.
But I agree that those are some very beautiful landmasses!

Castle Marlbrook

Haven't had much time to work on any non-publication mapping, but I squeezed this illustrative castle maps for this month's mapping challenge at the CG, really only about 3.5 hours in work, mostly in the hand-drawn portion of the map. You might not call it a map though, more an illustration really, but from experience it qualifies at the CG.

Instead of isometric map, I based the perspective on a 3D model of the castle itself, printed a lineart version that I used for reference in the hand=drawing. All other elements of the map are taken from the same aerial vantage point, so the house in the foreground is almost a top down, and the town in the upper portion of the map almost an ideal view. But I wanted to show as much of the interior areas of the castle grounds, which is why I chose this vantage point.

The final version of the map is uploaded at the CG (there's additional shadowing than this sample, I uploaded from my PC, not placed in online, so no link).

Oh, the castle is called Castle Marlbrook, it was the birthplace of one of my PCs in a 3.5 campaign that ended early this year, but started about 3 years ago (we went Epic). He was the second son of the Earl, and became an adventurer rather than taking a responsible life at court.

That looks very nice. I like the isometric perspective!

I really like the map, very well detailed! Honestly, I'm jealous of your style, its so real feeling.  :)

The one with the names and countries is a bit hard to read. Have you considered lowering the Map's opacity a bit to help make those names stand out a bit more?

Kaptn'Lath

I intended to have a lable set with town names and locations, and then one with the region names and boundries, i accidentally left them all on this time. The lables are on top so still messing with their opacity to get the large names to fold into the terrain. not sold on the forest/hills lables, wife thinks their a little big.

Thanks for looking and criticing. Cant learn to get better without feedback.

The Icons for towns and etc. are very well done, just big enough to be understood for what they are but small enough to not get in the way of the map. The Labels for the icons are also very clear to read.

I agree with your wife - the geography labels could be a bit smaller, perhaps put spaces in between the letters to stretch the label out enough to cover the geographic region while at the same time decreasing the font size?

Superfluous Crow

I have had nothing to do with the creation or use of the following map, I just happened to see a full-print version of it when I came by a roleplaying club in Copenhagen a few weeks ago and I was completely enthralled by it. It's a very, very nice map if you ask me. Very old-school feel combined with a high level of detail, ease-of-use and dark but beautiful coloring. Anyway, thought you mapmakers might want to see it.

I think they were using it for their campaign... Can't really decipher whether they borrowed the map or Ramah is actively involved.

A warning on the link as to the size would be nice. :)
